CNN reports that "Jackie told her friends that Monahan dropped out of the university after the assault, but a university record check by CNN revealed that no one by that name ever attended the university. Another check found no one by that name in the United States."

quote:

Last week, The Washington Post confirmed that a photo supposedly of Monahan that the friends received from the BlackBerry number was actually a former classmate from Jackie's high school, who "said he barely knew Jackie and hasn't been to Charlottesville for at least six years."

I think the question now is will UVA do the right thing and expel the liar?

What about her friends coming to her aid the night of the supposed incident?

It's crap like this story that are the death knell of journalism in our country. This writer went looking for a story, because she wanted it to be true. She had the story written and just needed someone to tell her what she already wanted to hear.

People who falsely claim rape, in which the claims can be proven without a doubt to be false, should be tried as rapists.

Absolutely. She is an obvious danger to fellow students and the credibility of the school itself.

Kick her arse out and charge her.

According to the friends, Jackie had told them she was going on a date that night with a UVA student named Haven Monahan, whom she had supposedly met in her chemistry class, CNN reports. Rolling Stone originally reported that Jackie's date was with "Drew," a pseudonym given to a member of UVA fraternity Phi Kappa Psi who she met "while working lifeguard shifts together at the university pool."

Jackie's friends say that after the supposed date she called her friend Ryan Duffin, identified in Rolling Stone as "Randall," who told CNN "She just said something bad had happened and could I come meet her." Duffin brought along Alex Stock, a friend identified as "Andy" in Rolling Stone, and Kathryn Hendley, identified as "Cindy."

What is it? Chemistry class or the pool?

quote:

Jackie's friends said they exchanged text messages with Monahan on multiple occasions, and received at least one email from a Yahoo account in his name.

The Washington Times reports that the friends were given three numbers for Monahan — a number supplied by Jackie that the students originally reached out to and was supposedly his personal cellphone, a second number that he replied from and said was a friend's phone, and a third number that he continued the conversation on and said was his BlackBerry.

According to The Times, all three of these numbers "were labeled as an 'Internet Phone' on a database background check." This means that they were sent using "services that allow users to send SMS text messages from a computer or iPad without having a phone number," The Times reports.

Apparently she had a crush on this Ryan guy, who wasn't interested and she created this "rapist" persona in some scheme to garner his attention.

This kind of "false rape" accusation, sets the cause back infinitely for every victim of real sexual assault. That's why this is so horrible and why she should be treated as a criminal.

She's made coming forward a lot harder for actual victims.

Sad.

they've come up with a name for this (Ferguson "hands up don't shoot" when no hands were up, Lena Dunham "A republican raped me", etc) where even if the facts aren't straight, the narrative stands true.

something like "inaccurate, but true"

Randall says he befriended Jackie soon after they arrived on campus. She was interested in a romantic relationship, but he said he wanted to remain friends. A short time later, Jackie began telling her three friends about Drew, a handsome junior from chemistry class who had a crush on her. They asked for the upperclassmen's number, and started exchanging text messages with him. In texts provided to the Post, he raves about "this super smart hot" freshman who shares his love of the band Coheed and Cambria.

Drew laments that he really likes Jackie, but she's interested in someone else. "Get this she said she likes some other 1st year guy who dosnt like her and turned her down but she wont date me cause she likes him," he writes. "She cant turn my down fro some nerd 1st yr. she said this kid is smart and funny and worth it." Randall is now convinced that he's the first year.
