“You lie to me and you might be on your way to jail,” detective Rodney Curd told Thomas, as she wept and repeatedly offered to take a lie-detector test. After more than an hour and a half of questioning and statement-taking, Curd finally told Thomas that Crawford, 22, had died.

“As a result of his actions, he is gone,” said the detective, as she slumped in her chair and cried . . .

Curd promptly asked Thomas whether she and Crawford had criminal records. Already tearful and breathless, Thomas explained that she may have had some traffic offences and had been arrested for petty theft as a juvenile.

The detective then became increasingly aggressive and banged on the table between them with his hand. “Tell me where he got the gun from,” Curd repeated. Thomas insisted Crawford had been carrying only a white plastic grocery bag when they arrived at Walmart to buy the ingredients to make s’mores at a family cook-out.

Asked one of several times whether Crawford owned a gun, Thomas said: “Not that I know.”

Curd told her: “Don’t tell me ‘not that you know’, because that’s the first thing I realise somebody’s not telling me the truth”.

He later repeated: “You need to tell me the truth” and “You need to be truthful.” . . .

Curd also pushed Thomas on whether she was intoxicated, asking her: “Have you been drinking? Drugs? Your eyes are kind of messed-up looking”. After she told him that Crawford had smelled of marijuana, Curd took down notes. He went on to ask whether Crawford had been suicidal.

That's just outstanding...and people who have problems with this behavior, that is becoming all too common, are apparently acting childishly.

Why do you believe that?

My 76 years of experience in this world has brought me into encounters with exactly ZERO cops of the kind you people constantly bitch about.

Of course I am a law abiding citizen - don't use dope - am a congenial respectful person and can admit when I have exceeded the speed limit.

I have encountered exactly ONE speed trap that I thought was unethical - but the cop was not disrespectful - he just wanted to do his job and let me get on about my business as soon as possible.

Most of you cop-haters just want to be able to disobey whatever laws you want - you want to be able to 'get in the face' of the lawful authority that has been given the JOB of enforcing the laws you are breaking - hell they may not even be in favor of those laws themselves but have to do it.

Plus all cops are human. I know if I were a cop, I'd resent the hell out of some foul-smelling bitchy hippy who wanted to get 'skate on the edge' of seeing just how much they could get away with while I was trying to do my JOB.

If you dislike the laws the cops are sworn to enforce, then act to get rid of the laws. Act respectful to cops and you will be treated respectfully.

Act like a damned whiney bitch and you just MIGHT encounter one of the 'bad' cops who will whip your arse - as you deserve.

The cops should be allowed to sell the shirts if they want. I do think its very stupid from a PR stand point to sell the shirts. Only trashy individuals would buy one anyways. Those wearing I cant breathe shirts, breathe easy shirts and Baton fricking Rouge shirts are all the same type of mouth breathers.

I really abhor the anti-cop rhetoric coming from these dweebs. I think it all stems from their dope-addled minds.

Mine stems from my paranoia and untrusting nature when it comes to those with power.

Mainly paranoia though.

I have never been arrested. I don't use drugs. I don't even have a speeding ticket to my name.

Are people, on both sides of this argument, that desperate to be part of a "movement"?

I would love to debate 90% of those clowns who are wearing that bullshite tshirt. Most have no clue. Hell, most black people don't even know who Garner even is.

It's divisive bc the cop is basically saying "you get what's coming to you if you disobey insignificant laws"

No he's saying cooperate with the law whenever you are stopped, questioned, or approached and don't fight back. Don't break laws and you have no issues.

just b.c you haven't had a bad experience, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

for the most part, my interactions with cops have been positive....once I was out of college. In college, I got harrassed pretty regularly but never got into trouble. Having long hair in a conservative area is a flashing light - you need to find out why i have long hair.

Luckily my grandfather was a cop and I was taught the basics of dealing with a cop - YOU ALWAYS frickING LOSE. there is no way to win in an interaction with a cop. They have a gun, you don't. They can kill you.

But I think my upbringing is probably rare.

I still believe frick the police. Yes, most cops aren't assholes but enough of them are to make me distrust all of them.

You're a head-in-the-sand guy who thinks just doesn't happen to you, cops are just fine. It's a version of the "I have nothing to hide, so I don't care if the NSA listens to all of my communications." Pathetic.

It's the protection of the assholes by the other cops; their unwillingness to police their ranks and hide behind their unions, that have embittered me.

With over 1 million interactions between police officers and the public you will have bad things happen, but the percentage of those things that happen are pretty low. We have over 700K police officers in America. Let's say we have a 10% rate of police officers that have no business being in this job due to character issues, mental issues or some other reason. That would put 70K "bad" police officers out there. If we had 70K of the bad apples out there wouldn't we have a lot more bad incidents happening? Less than 1% of these interactions lead to a violent encounter and most of those are justified. I have been accused of being all kinds of things that ranters accuse cops of being on here, but the videos and my actions have always proved that I had a reason to do what I did.

The cop should tell the council people to frick off. What's good for one side is good for the other.
