Is there any way for me to get out of my apartment lease?

Long story short...
- Signed a new 1-year lease starting on September 1st.
- Apartment got broken into in about a week later and had about $7000 worth stolen.
- A few days later I reported a shady character walking towards me in the parking lot. Cops showed up, he had a warrant out for his arrest, he got taken away (unrelated to my break in).
- A week after that, I told my apartment management that I wanted out of my lease due to safety concerns and they refused to let me out of it.
Options they're giving me but I won't do...
- Pay 2 months rent as a break-lease penalty (~$2700)
- Leave and keep paying rent until they find someone to fill it.
Option that I'm currently trying...
- My apartment is being advertised as available and I can leave as soon as they find someone to take it.
The problem with the current option that I'm trying is that it's been over 3 months with basically zero interest. They're listing my apartment as $200 more than their 2 bedrooms, so it's never going to be rented out unless something drastic happens.

Be a man and pay that penalty.

You have two choices:
- Pay 2 months rent as a break-lease penalty (~$2700)
- Leave and keep paying rent until they find someone to fill it.

Get a mold test at Home Depot. Do what it says and hope it grows something.
Profit. Mold is gold in the rental business.

2 months rent??? Holy shite. Whatever happened to 85% of 1 month?

Every place is different.
The place I moved out of last year was 60 days notice and 1 month rent.

He's not saying to grow mold, just testing for it.
Actually a really smart thing to do.

Been there before. Landlord was a real scumbag. Had to sell my soul to get out. It was an awful, awful experience.

I think I might try this. They told me today that there's language in the contract that covers basically everything possible so I can't break it, so I'll have to take a closer look at it.

So you're listening to legal advice from your landlord that you're trying to break a least with?

It works. Definitely worth the $9.95 for the test.
It might also help if you have had a history of asthma or a recent MD visit for a respiratory infection.
If you grow something, a letter from an Attny would certainly get them to allow you a graceful exit of your lease if they know what is good for them.

Just passing that info along from what they told me. I didn't believe them, so I'm going to get a copy of the contract and try to find a way out of it.
