And that's a very FINE line

Nothing wrong with being prepared, but people just go insane.

sooooooo.......

If I have two tons of rice hermetically sealed in an undisclosed location buried within a national forest, that's just being prepared, right?

I would hope Katrina taught people to be prepared for emergencies

I'd say that's over the top, but like anything, it's all a matter of opinion. I think most of the general public think we're invincible and something catastrophic couldn't happen. I'm not wearing a tin foil hat with my pile of ammo and guns, but this country sure is taking a turn for the worse.....

Everyone should have a couple weeks worth of supplies you can use if power is out. "Doomsday" preppers are preparing for the SHTF scenario so people can come in and steal their stuff. There's no doomsday coming.

I've got a pistol with one bullet. That's my plan. If things really went south, I don't want to be around to witness it. Problem solved.

Depends on your definition of doomsday. Being in a flooded neighborhood without food, water, or power and cops are coming door to door to take your guns, sounds like hell. That's what happened during Katrina. That being said, those people weren't prepared. Preppers are just taking that preparedness to an unnecessary level in most cases, IMO.

I want to know what "Doomsday" is that they are preparing for.

I know Mormons are told to stockpile enough food for 3 months, so I'm assuming this is to prepare for some type of event where going to the grocery store is not an option for 3 months? Because if the scenario is "no more food because of a war or all the food is gone", then you should be stockpiling seed and gardening tools and figuring out how to put in a water well.

Otherwise, it seems like a rather futile effort.

There's nothing wrong with have plenty of rifles, ammo, food, water, shelter, survival supplies for the brush and most importantly medication. If SHTF, a plan that has been well thought out and executed multiple times already will be your biggest asset.

I wouldn't say crazy, but some tend to get all up in your face about it.

Every episode, they seem to show one "normal" guy and one total whack job.
