Why should the Catholic Church have any say on American politics? Vatican City is the richest place on Earth. Religion should no voice when it comes to political.

Nothing to do with anything other than raw politics.
Consider the timing.
Jeb Bush announces. Obama puts a thumb in his eye. BO immediately raises an issue pitting various regions and groups against JEB's Miami donors.
Simultaneously in the process BHO seeks Jewish community credit for freeing a prominent Jewish man who'd been held by the Cubans. Ensures political effect in Fla is somewhat balanced.
