You have every right to speak your mind in this country about any subject you wish to speak of. That doesn't mean there are no reprocussions for what you say. If the company/employer feels you are not representing them in a favorable light, you face consequences.

Sorry, but your employer is not like the cops. You don't have any free speech in a company. You can't call your boss a cocksucker and get away with it. Being an idiot on Facebook is not one of the 5 protected classes, nor is it a disability. He can fire you for basically any reason besides those. This guy is just an idiot.

But frick the people who give this idiot money for his case. It's fricking ridiculous, since no matter how much money he gets, he won't win this case and will likely just not even pursue it once he's got a few hundred thousand dollars. frick people.

Cannot fire an employee based on the employee's race, sex, religion, and other statutorily protected categories.

It's what follows:

1) Race
2) Sex
3) Color
4) National Origin
5) Religion
6) For being over 40
7) Disabilities that can be reasonably accommodated.

In most states, you can still fire/not hire a person for their sexual orientation, weight, appearance, or anything in between.

Goes both ways. You can say all kinds of racist shite and not face any jail time or fines, but your boss can fire your arse on the spot. Nobody reasonable complained when Don Imus made his dumb arse "nappy headed hoes" comment and got the axe. A job is not a freedom awarded to American citizens. You represent the company at all times and they have the right to take action based on your actions or comments.

Of course he's threatening to sue, his right to free speech was violated, etc. And some attorney is going to take this case and now it seems that he will be able to raise money on a GoFundme page or something. He may be rewarded with a payday that will probably be more than this guy's total lifetime earning potential.

When did we get here as a society?

oh...the answer to your question...we got here about the same time your ignorant arse starting posting about things you don't have a damn clue about.

My employer regularly sends emails saying that if you are going to have our place of employment listed on our facebook page (or other social media sites) then we can be fired for things that we post on them.

You can't get unemployment if you are fired unless you can show that they did not fire you for good cause connected with the workplace.

What was the unarmed black man going to do with the weapon?...this dude is a pos, what he said is racist with malicious intent.....no wonder.no one trust black men who roam the streets...

My employees represent my business at all times. Saying something like that puts a bad light on their employer. This is the world we live in. Social perception matters, and employing someone who represents themselve poorly deserves the consequences.
