you ask them why they feel like they do regarding politics in general and they will key in on one thing that pertains to what's going on in their lives and use that as the stage to promote all that is democrat.
My grandmother for instance. I have a cousin whose child has developed a disability. I won't go into the particulars about that but my cousin has really never been one to succeed in life.Always quitting jobs, living with friends, family.Cousin had a kid out of wedlock and kid is now disabled.

Grandmother admonishes me because i will not stand with her on her democratic platform to get my cousins kid free healthcare.

This doesn't just play with Dems. It also is the reason the FAIR TAX cannot be implemented. FAIR TAX requires ALL exemptions to be abolished. Then individuals say "OK, except for the mortgage interest exemption or the exemption to charitable donations or the ...."

No, but your pic reminds me that I've never eaten mutton in my life. It's against my religion.

I think that is pretty universal. Have you ever talked to old Republicans? It's like they memorized today's Fox News clips so it happens on both sides more often than not IMO.

so basically you want to deny your cousins child the opportunity to be healthy as punishment for your cousins laziness.

How republican of you

Pragmatic thinkers who know you should not spend more than you take in, that if you dole out money to people you incentivize laziness, and that the constitution is a rigid document that says what it means and means what it says.

I do not think this word means what you think it means.

I'm sorry, but as much as I'd like to think we could have a world where the latter is, in practice, true, it's not reflective of pragmatic thinking to believe a state's power can realistically be restrained by an old document, no matter how influential or steeped in tradition the document is.

---

Also, this thread is suffering some bad from observation selection effect. If you're a Republican, then you presumably associate more with other Republicans, which means you get exposure to the nuances in Republican thought which immunize you from stereotyping the entire group; since Democrats don't get the same luxury in your mind, you're more likely to stereotype them according to the loudest or most memorable impressions Democrats make, which is likely to select for the more ridiculous Democratic views. Ditto in reverse for any Democrats reading.

In short, if all Democrats you know are "stupid, pinheaded, ignorant dunces," or people who focus on one issue, the problem more likely lies with your observations instead of Democrats.

My dad is a socialist and does the same thing. He goes off about how Christianity promotes giving to the poor and if I am against government programs giving to the poor I am evil.

My reply-- #1 There is nothing in the constitution that makes us a theocracy. I am sure atheist and other religions would not be in favor of a Christian government plan.

#2- Jesus said give to the poor (which I do). Not give to Ceasar so he can give to the poor.

#3- My kill shot... Since he is all about giving to the poor, I offer an end all test. I offer to compare tax returns and compare our "poor giving patterns".

Needless to say, we don't talk politics anymore.

I talk to Republicans all the time and they all blame their problems on gays, Muslims, Mexicans, and Blacks. They also pray too much.
