For years the adage "defense wins championships" was the prevailing wisdom.
That is true, but LSU has been ranked in the top 12 in scoring defense 7 of the last 10 years and only once outside of 21.

On the other hand the scoring offense has only been ranked in the top 12 twice...2006 and 2007.

The irony of LSU's 2007 National Championship is from a statistical standpoint that defense(scoring) was the 3rd worst during Miles tenure, but the scoring offense was Miles 2nd best.......things that make you go hmmmmmmm.

If we didn't need to put up 50 points to beat Bama, Kentucky, and Arkansas we wouldn't have attempted to. Injuries turned a dynamite defense into dogs hit by midseason.

My only point is.......LSU is only as good as their offense under Miles. The defense has been extremely consistent over the last 10 years.

The best final poll rankings under Miles coincidentally are his 3 best scoring offenses. 2006 3rd, 2007 1st and 2011 2nd.

It's not a coincidence. When you excel in 2/3 areas on an annual basis, it's only logical that you have the greatest success when you also excel in the third.

A. I like the excitement. Also, the defense always has scary potential, so they can turn into a B type at any time. Very seldom does a d under Chavis regress.

The only metric that concerns me out of either of those is the margin of victory, which is identical. So put me in the indifferent camp.

I'd need to see turnover rates, yards per pass and run play (offense and defense), completion percentages and ideally to see how far above or below expectations the team performs in scoring offense and defense in order to decide.

Is this really up for debate? Even great offenses go cold. Give me a great defense.

Who says B wins more games? TCU won more games with no defense whatsoever. It all depends on who your opponent is.

Everyone that picked B, basically picked this years LSU team that went 8-4

2014
Offense 163 passing 219 rushing 382 tot 27.6 pts
defense 162 passing 143 rushing 306 tot 16.4 pts

2013
Offense 251 passing 202 rushing 453 tot 35 pts
defense 197 passing 143 rushing 340 tot 22 pts

Year? I want this combo again.
offense 251 passing 165 rushing 416 tot 33.7 pts
defense 145 passing 93 rushing 238 tot 12.5 pts

LSU's '13 defense was near the top. 3rd in the SEC.

BTW.....not one team in college football this year accomplished what you are suggesting with Team B's defense.

Ole Miss was close at 321 yards per game and 13.8 pts.

B which is more likely than A for LSU anyway.
