I read a positive thread on TD about Taco Chops around a week ago, so I had to give it a shot

We didn't really get adventurous with the appetizers, just chips and queso/salsa. The queso was good, not on Superior Grill Shreveport level, but solid nonetheless. The salsa was pretty standard to be honest. The owner came out and brought us some fried plantains with a rich cream sauce to try out, and it was very good.

The entrees (all tacos) were excellent. I ordered the buffalo chicken, shrimp, and steak tacos. My dad ordered the the buffalo chicken, steak, and fish. The buffalo sauce had a great flavor and surprising kick to it, and I'm really not that big of a buffalo chicken fan. The shrimp was seasoned in a "cream butter" and was really good. Lastly was the steak taco. The meat was really tender with great flavor, but the taco was just bland. No sauce or any unique ingredients like the other tacos; just cheese, a slice of jalapeno, and steak.

Lastly, the service was fantastic. The waitress was very cordial and willing to help. They were also all very conversational and gave a lot of great suggestions. The owner was very customer centric and checked on us quite a bit. The owner's suggestion to the bland steak taco was this "wall of sauce" concept, where customers bring their preferred sauce to the wall for use. We thought it was pretty creative, yet I'm not bringing my own sauce to a restaurant I'd much prefer them coming up with another sauce that's as great as the others Tc has already made.

Overall, it was a great dining experience. We unintentionally made it to their first "Taco Tuesday", so the tacos were only $2 a piece ($3.75 on regular days). All of the ingredients were fresh, food was great, and the service was top notch. Baton Rouge could use some more places like TC.

Also, I selfishly wish it was around LSU, not down Coursey I will definitely be back to visit Taco Chops in the near future.

Nice. I may have to check this place out when I'm in BR next week, if they are open.
