No way UMICH is going to pay 10mil/year for a college coaching staff.

But, the Dolphins would.

would jim stay at san fran if the owner fired the GM, gave jim a big raise and gave him more control of player personnel?

I agree with all of that.

He'll veto traded until they fire him. He has a lot of control here.

Yes. Why this hasn't already happened is a mystery

Really? Because I'm wondering what I'll see first, Brady Hoke's successor or the Hale-Bopp Comet.

4. Would coaching at Michigan afford him significant more time to spend with his wife and children?

I'm no expert on the inner workings of running an NFL team, but I think once you factor in recruiting, college demands just as much if not more time than the NFL.

It appears that this drags on for at least two more weeks.
That would basically take us right up to..........December 26th and The Music City Bowl. Hmmmmm.

Just hearing everything going around this from the 49er perspective, there is really no chatter at all about him going to Michigan. I guess that could be wrong but it's not like it was with Saban at all.

It's good to practice these interviews and you might make an impression for a later hire. These GM's talk to each other and if you made a impression on one he might give you a thumbs up to another GM or college AD.

Exactly. What idiot would turn down the experience and the chance to get your name out as a potential great candidate?

College has become almost more of a time sap than NFL coaching because it doesn't have a true offseason anymore between bowl prep, recruiting season, spring prep, spring practice, etc.

Chip Kelly expounded this past offseason about how he was enjoying the fact that he could actually decompress after the season ended and watch film in the NFL as opposed to being on the road recruiting the day after the season wrapped at Oregon.

LINK

quote:

"My schedule, the day the season was over, was a lot worse than my schedule here because you're planes, trains and automobiles recruiting from Sunday night until Friday afternoon and hustling back and practicing, getting a practice in Friday afternoon, practice Saturday, practice Sunday, get back on a plane and fly around the country chasing down recruits," he said.

"Maybe a misconception is when you're a college coach and the last game is done and then the bowl game comes, you don't have a month off. I would argue my schedule was more hectic from a recruiting standpoint than it was here. So I'm looking forward to being in the office every day and watching tape. That is the fun part of our job."
