I continued with my gluttonous ways last night. I attended the Lafitte's Christmas party. It was upstairs at My Bar and Maision. I'd recommend anyone who wants to throw a party downtown to check this space out. It was recently renovated a year ago and the balcony is huge.
The food was great and the Beam was flowing. They also had a dj.
They prepare all the food. It was like eating at home. The main lady is from St. Bernard. I was lucky to walk out with the remaining mixture to make artichoke balls. These are the foods I tried and enjoyed.
They had chicken kabobs which were moist and full of flavor.
Boiled corn and potatoes
Shrimp pasta
Brisket with horseradish and mayo
The artichoke balls were outstanding. I think I had at least 14 of them.
This cold crawfish dish was damn strong.
And they were shucking oysters caught that morning. They were salty and cold. I want some for breakfast.

Were the artichoke balls like artichoke brownies?
Breadcrumbs and Parmesan mostly?

I can put a dent in some oysters, straight out the shell is my favorite way.

I've never seen an artichoke ball in my life until your threads recently

I'd have destroyed the artichoke balls.
The pasta looked particularly fatty. I'd have had to wipe out most of that as well.

Started to type "artichoke ball" into Google, and it auto-typed "Artichoke ball New Orleans", so that answers it.
It's another mostly New Orleans food that people from New Orleans don't realize is a New Orleans food
Like mirlitons. (Yes, I know the hispanic community eats them)

Born and raised right here. Never seen an artichoke ball at a party or dinner or anything
Raised here in BR.. Dad's family from here in BR.. Mom's family from Basile (Cajunland).
There are a few things I've never had that seems common in New Orleans, but I guess that works both ways.
Jones had no experience with boudin, ponce, etc. We brought Billy's boudin to the Northshore for Thanksgiving and everyone had no idea what it was and had never tried it before

Being from Baton Rouge explains it.

I through the stuffing in the fridge last night when I got home. When I awoke to get some water this morning, I got an awesome whiff of artichoke, oil, and breadcrumbs. I wanted to bring it to work for lunch and just eat that shite without making them into balls.

Sorry. Didn't know it was a "New Orleans" thing.
