is it trashy for a married couple to give a gift to a single relative "from both of us" when the single relative gives individual gifts to them?

Depends on the value of the gift.

We do that, but normally double the value allowed.

To think EACH person would give you one is stupid. I've never heard of that. If you have a problem with that, get something for the both of THEM- or get nothing at all.

Just asking the question. Doesn't really affect me one way or the other, but it's a point of contention for some.

There's no reason both parties in a married couple should each give a gift IMO.

People are increasingly concerned with other peoples opinions about what is or isn't trashy. It's pretty trashy.

I am single and I don't subscribe to the whole "keeping score" shite where gifts are concerned...if you want to give me a gift, then do it...if not, then don't...

I can see where some individuals would be superficial enough to have that bother them, though...

One of the few advantages of being married.

I hear ya. Wife would say, "We've got to get them something, they're going to give us something." I told her I would never give a gift for that reason.

Two years ago I said phuck it, NO GIFTS except for kids, if family wanted. We cut that shite out cause it's ridiculous. Instead of getting a bunch of shite you may or may not need, everyone should go get themselves a $400.00 gift- or whatever their gift allocation is.
