Had a bottle of this, and it doesn't taste the same as previous times I've had it in 12 oz bottles. Did they change the recipe? Doesn't have as much of a grapefruit/citrus hop flavor that I remember it having in the past.

How fresh is it? What is the date on the bottle?

This would be my question to the plaintiff.

It was new at the store where I bought it, but didn't check the date. Since it was so new/just released recently, it didn't dawn on me that it could've been an old beer. Will have to check date next time I'm at the store.

ETA: could be that the NODA hop drop and roll has numbed my tastebuds to citrusy hops. I've been drinking that a lot lately

No I'm with you. I've had Sucks fresh on tap and it was one of my top 5 favorite beers. In the 32 ounce not so much. No date on Lag bottles so I really assumed it was a shelf terd. It had a malfy backbone which is why I thought that whereas on tap it was a fresh crisp hop throughout.

Who to believe?

1. Random guy who says it doesn't taste the same as previous times?
2. Quality control of large brewery?

I guess I will go with random guy since our palates are never tainted and our memories are exactly accurate.

I was listening to a podcast last week with one of the brewers at Goose Island and he said he never takes home bottles from the brewery and instead always buys them at the store because he wants to taste what the consumer tastes. He says everything tastes good in QA/QC tests at the brewery when it's straight from the bright tank. Not so much a couple months down the road. I agree with him.

So yeah. I trust some random guy on the Internet over the brewery QA/QC.

It would certainly help if Lagunitas would date the damn bottle. Just because something is new to a store, doesn't mean it wasn't sitting it some inept distributor's warehouse for months.

If we are talking about Baton Rouge, inept distributor is a redundant term

They do date it, but it's sneaky. It's printed in black way up on the neck and with the Julian date. Very tough to see unless it's in the right light and angle. Then you have to decipher it.

That kinda..... (wait for it)..... sucks.

I've heard that sucks has a life of about a week before it starts changing and starts tasting like cardboard. I've never had it, but really want to try some.

Is this like the bet you can't lick your elbow trick?
I've been looking forever and I can't find anything on my Sucks bottles at the house.

Nvm found it.
Looks like mine were born on 9/27/14. Certainly not awful but it's definitely affected it's performance.
Actually I have no idea. Can someone decipher this born on date in Julian code?

Better question -- why the hell would you make it so inacessible to the general public? That might be the only critique I can levy on Lagunitas as a brewery other than the fact that they are second tier

ETA: By inacessible I mean not easily understood and widely recognized. You certainly can access it given the requisite knowledge. I feel the same way about this as I feel about breweries that put "Best By" dates. No. Just gimme a bottled date and let me judge shite for myself.

If we're throwing stone at Lagunitas, I'd like to add that the owner is a petulant douche.

I frickin hate that best by shite. It's always inflated.

On another note the Enjoy By brand is just pure marketing genius.
