The IRS is probably going to get gutted in the next budget now that republicans have taken over congress.

You can call it political but I view it more as a human tragedy.

The Cherokee leadership hoped the decision would persuade the federal government to intervene against Georgia and end the talk of removal. Georgia ignored the Supreme Court's ruling, refused to release the missionaries, and continued to press the federal government to remove the Cherokees. President Jackson did not enforce the decision against the state and instead called on the Cherokees to relocate or fall under Georgia's jurisdiction. (Although Jackson is widely quoted as saying, "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it," his actual words to Brigadier General John Coffee were: "The decision of the supreme court has fell still born, and they find that it cannot coerce Georgia to yield to its mandate.")

The POTUS and the State of Georgia ignored a Supreme Court ruling and forcibly removed a group of people off their land and forced them out. Then forced them to march out west killing many along the way. While I agree that the IRS scandal might potentially be the worst in recent history, it in no way compares to what Andrew Jackson managed to do as POTUS.

Are you saying that the persecution of a specific group of people by using an arm of the government that can silence their political voice and seize their assets is not a problem?

Or are you just saying the government has been wrong before?

This is the worst of political corruption that I have seen in my 39 years. It's probably worse than anything else in the last 100 years.

LOL greater scrutiny for tax exempt status is hardly "persecution". and no one was "silenced". No one stopped anyone from speaking.

And if you think this is the worst political corruption in 100 years you know as much about history as my chiwienie sitting next to me.

What you're accusing Obama of doing is exactly what Bush was accused of when he attempted to use the DOJ to go after his political enemies then fired them when they refused. It wasn't illegal but he certainly got admonished by the subsequent investigation.

Here there is absolutely no evidence that Obama had anything to do with it and even if there was, it would be the same result as Bush, an admonishment.

Now if you want corruption, google the number of Reagan cabinet members and high level appointees convicted or forced to resign and the number Bush pardoned so that the Reagan guys wouldn't gave trial.

Wake me when this happens with Obama.

Greater scrutiny for groups with dissenting opinions and being completely blind to those that agree with your positions, thereby cutting off funding is definately silancing, and is definately persecution.

Based on your post history, I wouldn't trust you to know enough about history to actually be a judge.

I didn't accuse Obama of anything douche. He's smart enough to have his handlers / admin execute without being directly involved.

Also, two wrongs don't make a right.

Was the information requested by the DOJ? No, it was not provided to the DOJ upon request according to the DOJ. So it had to have been by referral of the Secretary of the Treasury. To date there has not been a single claim by the IRS, or Department of the Treasury, that the disclosed information was provided to the DOJ in accordance with established policies and procedures. If established policies and procedures were not followed then the disclosure could not have been made in accordance with the statute you cited.

Lois Lerner is in a precarious situation. Any departure from the letter of the law puts her at risk of perjury based on her statement to Congress, “I have not done anything wrong. I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations. And I have not provided false information to this or any other congressional committee.” Determining if Lerner violated the law should be pretty simple for anyone interested in enforcing the law. Apparently, the Obama DOJ is not interested in enforcing this law.

The section that was cited concerns private tax returns. Aren't tax returns for 501c's considered public documents?
