against an open dialog that refutes any of their "ideas" and against anything they don't deem being politically correct...
fortunately they have bedmates like the Boehners of the Republican party to keep them company, easy to see why they fear the hell out of anyone who really challenges their weak position..
after Theil was cancled you get the brilliance of the berkeley leftists, who suck from the teat of comu-corporates like Soros and are funded by the tax payers:

"Free speech" comes from the First Amendment and means that the government will not abridge the rights of citizens to speak freely. It does not guarantee that a person's speech has to be tolerated by other citizens.
A protest of someone else's speech is, itself, a form of speech. I doubt that many of those protesters think that the government should step in and stop Thiel's speech. They did it themselves, which is their right as citizens.
I know you're trying to point out hypocrisy, but in criticizing the protesters, aren't you condemning their speech? That's the same thing they did to Thiel.

As long as it is speech they agree with, they are totally for free speech.

I'm enjoying their lack of tolerance. I've seen quite a bit of it lately.

You're missing the point. You said they are against free speech, but that's not true. They are not against the institution of Free Speech that is guaranteed in the First Amendment, for the reasons I explained.
They are against that guy's speech, and that's their right. They are perfectly entitled to shout the other guy down. That's one of the nice things about the United States--citizens have the power and privilege to speak up against people with whom they disagree.
Do you think Patriot Guard Riders are against "free speech"? They show up in large numbers to drown out the Westboro Baptists assholes and to keep their message from making an impact. Does that mean they hate free speech? Of course not.

this pretty much applies to everyone. Everyone likes free speech until someone says something they don't like.

Well, their form of "free speech" would more accurately be described as censorship, which is the lowest form of "free speech" an individual or group can choose to engage in.

Anyway, my point is that protesting someone else's speech is not equal to opposing the institution of free speech (as it appears in the Constitution).
I don't think there's much else I can contribute to the conversation without repeating myself so I'll bow out of the thread.

Too bad it's overplayed. I don't have an issue with it being reversed.
Interestingly the protesters broke up an audience participation event where the speaker was just about to discuss the value of political protest. I guess they kind of shite on the idea.

OK, give me an example of where the right has suggested making speech they don't agree with illegal.
The opposite is rife with examples. The left cannot tolerate free speech.

Ugh, you have this arse backward. The first amendment guarantees that the Government cannot prevent the freedom of speech. The implication is that free speech is not something conferred by the Government. The concept of freedom of speech does not originate with the 1st amendment.

Berkeley kids are fricking hopeless. Peter Thiel is a great man, and if they don't want to listen I'm sure he'll make better use of his time elsewhere.
Posted on 12/11/14 at 4:04 pm to Jagd Tiger
protesting isn't about being heard
it's either about destroying shite or shutting someone up.

Speech is speech is speech.
If you don't like it don't listen.
