it kinda happened with Houston Nutt. I think Arky fans would say he was forced out but he landed at OM pretty quickly for him to just be forced out

Nutt technically counts as the last, but not really because he resigned after the LSU game.

I say "technically" because he knew he was gone after the LSU game. The rumor I've always heard is that he was headed to either SMU or Georgia Tech (I can't remember), but Ole Miss decided to extend an offer after we won the LSU game.

It's happened multiple times.

It doesn't happen often because most would be lateral moves.
No one is going from one Big 6 to another since they all have essentially the same tools to work with.

I googled the quote and it pointed to this thread.

Apparently he said it to himself and now it's about to go viral.

Nutt was fired by the Arkansas fan base. But "officially" resigned and WAOM was right there to pick up the pieces!

As the story supposedly ran, Tubby then turned around after being at AU for 1 yr & let Skip know that he was interested in LSU if/when Saban ever left.Skip's wife told more than a few people about that contact. At that point in time, the league office let Tubby know, through unofficial channels, that that would be seriously frowned on.No set rule but the league office is not in favor of it at all.

Exactly what I've said all along. It's basically an unofficial rule to hire away other sec coaches.

It's rarely broken.

Keltic-You are correct in the unwritten rule. And Tubby was salivating at the thought of coaching in Baton Rouge, if and when Saban left.

Tuberville situation was frowned upon afterward when Slive made it known to all teams not to poach

LSU got Dinardo from Vandy

Spurrier or Saban don't really count and neither did Nutt or if Fulmer ever came back

Yep.

Bill Curry won the SEC in 1989 and left Bama for Kentucky right after the Sugar Bowl.

My sister was at a social function in N.O. prior to the bowl game that yr, Mrs. Bertman was there & telling this story to several tables around her that evening. She said Skip just laughed when told of Tubby's contact by an LSU official & commented "NO way in hell". She said that it was Skip's understanding that the league office would "put Tuberville in his place".

Wouldn't surprise me a bit if there was a gentlemen's understanding amongst the schools. The SEC is thriving, but there are a ton of sacrifices made by some for the good of the whole.

Go look at the Big 12 the past 5 years, and see what happens when schools stop getting along. If Auburn had taken Franklin from Vandy a couple of years ago, or Florida had snatched Mullen from State a week ago, there could have been a lot of infighting. Instead, the conference remains united against the rest of the NCAA.
