Now THAT is funny
I can assure you, nothing written here has any impact whatsoever to anything LSU whatsoever.

If he would have left and got drafted in the 13th spot in the 3rd he would have gotten $2,927,00.
The 13th pick in the first round this year will be over $10,500,000.
That's pretty cool info. Do some more examples. Like: Freak Johnson - let's assume he would have stayed and was a second or third rounder this year.

Everyone loves pointing out how La'el is going to make bank for coming back. He they're right, he is. But the other side of the coin is Landry, Beckham, Hill... guys who took a shot and left early, drafted early, and are making money a year earlier and are a year closer to their big contracts.
Are any of these guys outside of La'el considered in the top of their position? J. Collins and Mills are the only ones that should truly go because they can't really improve their stock much (along with too much young talent in front of them). Kwon has to become super productive to go anywhere better than 4th round regardless. Hunter needs to show pass rushing skills, which would greatly increase his value. Hawkins can easily become a first round prospect by playing at LT next year, and Vadal could solidify himself as a top guard by fine tuning some things.
At first I was like most that said get to the second contract, but with the saturated market, would you even get there? How about getting as much as you can upfront, and just praying, working hard, and doing enough on the field, to at least get a second contract.

The 2nd contract is what matters most.
Over the past 20 years the position with the longest lifespan is qb at 5 years. That means most guys arent even making it to that 2nd contract. and ones that do, arent even making it through that contract.

Beckham, Landry, Hill were all 1st to 2nd round talents. They were shoe ins with there production. None of them could better there production from last year. Lael was bouncing around from 2-3 round on most boards. He had a chance to improve his stock to a solid first rounder and he did that.

He's just saying congrats to one of his players. No indication that he's staying at LSU.

Getting to that second contract is what matters. The higher you are drafted the better shot you have to actually make it to that second contract. Its a lot easier justifying cutting an UDFA that has no cap hit outside of min salary than someone you have already sunk a bunch of money into that is taking up room on the cap. The higher the draft position, the more you have guaranteed. Plus, that second contract will be a raise from the first, so the more you initially make, the more you will make on the second contract.

If it does have an impact, it can only be negative.

quote:Landry, Beckham, and Hill "didn't take a shot at leaving early." Those 3 were not going to improve their stock by returning. La'el definitely improved his stock by returning.

OBJ and Juice certainly weren't going to improve their stock this year.
