Great find! This is awesome. I've actually thought about doing the exact same thing this father did with my kids.

At the very least I want to expose them to some key games / series from the past so they might appreciate how far games have come. In the same way I complain that my parents sometimes forced me to watch educational programming on PBS that I had no interest in or that was over my head, my kids may complain that I forced them to play through the original Super Mario Brothers.

The fun level is very different be ween pbs and mario. I plan on showing my daughter some classics for sure. For one thing those games are just simpler for a small kid to understand.

Very true. If I hand my 5 year old son an Xbox or PS4 controller he just gets lost and distracted, even if I tell him he only needs to use one button and one of the sticks when playing old emulated games. It has 2 analog sticks, 1 digital pad and 11 buttons. He can't help but push those to see what they do, which is nothing, and then he forgets which ones I told him to use in the first place.

Compare that to the games I grew up with which had a digital joystick and one button and it's pretty crazy how complex games have gotten. I'm thinking of buying something like this or this to ease him and my daughter in.

Definitely want to do something like this with my daughter. Which should be rather easy with my Mame arcade.

Not sure I want my daughter to be that exposed to gaming at such a young age though. Kid is beating some of the hardest games out there, does he do anything else besides game?
