So which group gets to be included as white next?

What they need to do is start building some Section 8 housing in the suburbs. And have the government buy houses in the suburbs that are for sale and turn around and rent/sell them to lower income people and integrate the schools that way.

If you start putting up public housing in people's neighborhoods then the folks that live there are going to go completely ape @#$% on you next election cycle.

Tell me about it. I know I would. I was being sarcastic, but at the same time, I wouldn't put it past some silly liberal to think up just that idea.

I've been told by a lot of coworkers that used to work at our Stamford and New York offices that Hartford is a real dump.

That kind of surprised me. I expected it to be a decent place for some reason.

I fully expect 20MuleTeam to either avoid this thread altogether or come in and call all of us racists before a swift exit.

Exactly integration should have meant equal access to neighborhood schools not efforts to force statistical outcomes. We could have saved a lot of money, animosity and had better education if integration would have simply meant equal access.

Sucks for the kids that can't afford private school. I'd take a second job if I had to to put my kids through private school. Those low income school districts are f'ing terrible.

You said you were being sarcastic with this later (right?), but rest assured that your government has filed many a lawsuit to ensure the above takes place.

quote:

Over the course of two decades, the eastern Dallas County town of just over 5,000 residents has succumbed to a federal order for 70 low-income housing units and a directive to give first consideration to proposals submitted by ICP

Sunnyvale, Tx

And don't forget this reaction to school integration in Boston, Mass. (1977 Pulitzer Prize photo):
