Marshall on Cutler: "I understand why Bears might have buyer’s remorse".

PFT
"Jay, do you have a comment?"
quote:
The Bears signed quarterback Jay Cutler to a seven-year, $126.7 million contract during the offseason and it’s safe to say that Year One of that deal has not gone as anyone in Chicago hoped or expected.
The Bears are 5-8, which leaves them last in the NFC North, and coach Marc Trestman has had to confirm that Cutler’s the starter in the face of questions about giving Jimmy Clausen time with the first team. There was also a Sunday report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that the team was experiencing a case of “buyer’s remorse” about the deal, which is set to pay Cutler $54 million over its first three years.
Wide receiver Brandon Marshall made an appearance on WMVP on Monday after he was placed on injured reserve and was asked about his quarterback. Marshall said he felt there were better days ahead on the field, but that he understood why the people signing the checks might have some regrets about it.
“That’s tough, man,” Marshall said, via the Chicago Tribune. “What I would say is we all know Jay is more than capable of getting it done. It doesn’t always fall on him. I guess that’s why those guys are the highest paid players out there. Because when you win and everything is going good, they get all the glory. And when it’s bad, they take more than what they should take. But I can understand that as far as as a business man, I would have buyer’s remorse, too.”
Marshall, who said he was “confused” by the offense’s issues this season because of the talent on hand, also signed a new deal in the offseason. It wasn’t nearly as lucrative as Cutler’s pact, but still paid him $15 million for his lowest output since his rookie season. Injuries were a big factor in that drop in production, but there’s plenty of reasons for buyer’s remorse to go around in Chicago this year and we haven’t even mentioned a defense that would be a ripoff at any price.

Chicago 28th in Total Defense
Chicago 32nd in Scoring Defense
Chicago 32nd in Scoring Defense

Wow, that title (of the article) was misleading. Marshall didn't really bad mouth Jay or anything.

They are last in the division. Last. OUCH.
Cutler hasn't really played that great, but he is definitely not their biggest problem.
They can't run the ball, they can't pass defend, and they aren't doing that great a job of keeping Cutler upright.
Trestman looks lost out there.

He still turns the ball over too much. I swear, every time he gets sacked he fumbles.

It could be 42-17 Saints or 38-13 Bears. I can't tell anymore.

Exactly. And 26th in rushing offense. You're not winning many games with that formula.

Maybe, but if you're behind your QB, why even bring up the "buyer's remorse" thing? "I don't feel this way, but I could understand how THEY might."

Yeah, 11 fumbles and 15 picks. Gotta take care of the ball.

The problem with the Chicago Bears is their defense. Period.
I realize their offense hasn't been the greatest, but they are giving up over 29 points per game on defense.

That game against the Cowboys was pathetic. Couldn't stop shite. The OFfense did a surprisingly good job of almost digging out of that hole though.

And Marshall keeps getting banged up. It really does suck for them. I actually like Cutler and Marshall a lot. I mean, they are really distributing the ball.
Bennett, Jeffrey, Marshall, and Forte all have a lot of receiving yards. I think they said they are all 4 close to 1,000 yards each. That's insane. Imagine if Marshall had stayed healthy and if they could get any push in the running game. And, of course, stops.

yea, statistically the offense is having a pretty good year. Surprisingly, Cutler has a better rating on the season than Stafford. But the results aren't there. Of course, comparing the Lions defense to the Bears defense is just cruel.

Cutler's biggest issue is turnovers. With that said, Chicago's problem is defense, they are terrifyingly bad at it.

Marshall's actual quote is stronger than what is used for the title:
quote:
Brandon Marshall on Cutler: I understand why Bears might have “buyer’s remorse”
The title is only misleading in that it softened the language. Marshall didn't say might.

Sabi I agree with everything youve said.
Cutler hasnt been steller or anything like that, but its not all on him. Sure he turns it over a lot, but he has a bad OL and a bad rushing attack. Hes had 539 dropbacks this year and 290 of them he had under 2.5seconds in the pocket before seeing pressure which is the 7th most in the NFL. And believe it or not, hes rated the 4th best QB under pressure this season according to PFF. He has a 59% completion percentage when under pressure, which is 2nd in the NFL. And accuracy percentage is 70%, which is 4th in the NFL. Accuracy % is when the they count a drop from a WR as a completion. And hes thrown 11 TDs while under pressure, which is the most in the NFL. But hes also thrown 5 INTs, which is T-6th in the NFL.
Forte is a great RB, but due to OL and D issues they are always playing from behind and have to start throwing it most of the time. He has 854rushing yards and a 4.0ypc, but also has 724receiving yards. He almost has as much receiving yards as he does rushing yards. And thats due to the fact that they have a weak rushing attack and a horribble D and are always playing from behind.
Cutler is 5th in the NFL in completion % at 66.8%, 9th in passing yards with 3,446yards, and tied for 7th with 26 TDs. The issues are turnovers. He def needs to do a better job with that but you also gotta factor in the fact that they are always coming fomr behind and are a 1 dimensional offense and the D knnows that. And his OL isnt good either. Plus, Marshall and Jeffery have been banged up most of the season.
The Bears have a lot of issues, and Cutler isnt playing his worth right now, but hes far from their biggest issue.
