Any thoughts on this hire? Advocate article on hire

He does say “What we’ve got to do is get together and try to find some things that work to bring things back together. You’ve got to have some compromises, knowing that you’re not going to make everyone happy.” Is that just talk or is he interested in bringing the split to an end?

Also, here's a wild idea I had for something that might re-unite the public and private.

What if Curtis agrees to play up to the highest classification for a minimum of 10 years and the 5A schools agree to accept them? I've always thought that it was mainly the Curtis stranglehold on whatever classification they happened to be in year in and year out that people kept casting around for a solution to until they finally tried the split. Some might include Evangel or other top privates in there but I'm not sure it would be necessary.

NOLA article on JT Curtis's position on the split

Would it work? JT Curtis seems to be against the split but would he agree to play up to do away with it? Would the 5A schools agree to it? Would the smaller public schools agree to do away with the split if it was implemented?

I think being vague with your post and then forcing us to click a link to figure it out is illegal in the rules

Hopefully an admin will come along and correct it

Is Nevada together or separated?

That is silly. You can't know the future 10 years in advance. Katrina didn't even happen 10 years ago.

The South LA publics will be against the split. If the privates start deciding to play each other and not publics, they will get hurt at the gate. In South LA, the majority of public schools bring nobody to the games.

Publics and parochials have different recruiting rules and should be separate Some Parochial tams are nothing but football factories

I think it would be awesome if something like vouchers were given to private school kids who live in the same parish since our tax money already pays for all the public school kids to go for free.

New LHSAA hire

The LHSAA is a f'ing joke. I wish all the private/catholic schools would leave the LHSAA and STOP giving money to them. I'd laugh my arse off. LHSAA would be begging for them to return.

This X10000000000

The meltdown and finger pointing from the public schools would be unbelievable.

Posters keep bringing up Mississippi as a comparable example, there is no comparison. Its been 2 years since I graduated, but when I graduated Stanislaus was one of less than 10 private schools, may even be less than 5 in the MHSAA and we were the largest and only 4A! (MS goes up to 6A) They have the MAIS but a large majority of the "privates" and the league itself were created in response to the desegregation of schools, not competition. People in Mississippi hate Stanislaus and have said forever we cheat, its nothing new. If you think the playoffs this year were a joke, go look at the MAIS, they have 3 divisions, and I believe MRA won the basketball state championship like 8-9 years in a row, and they only play like 2 games and they are champions .

I believe in California, Texas, New York, and Florida they have splits for some private schools and religious oriented divisions, that would be a better comparison. But there are too many good rivalries and games that would be missed from a total split, but if it takes the privates leaving, forming their own league, and shoving it in the publics face, to make them see then that is okay with me.

Very funny how it was only for the playoffs/championships they have a split, as some coaches have said the publics were not about to say no to playing privates out of division/classification in the regular season.

California is ruthless. They don't separate public and private and they also have far less state championships per capita.

The main problem is in 2A and 3A. Public schools just can't consistently compete with Curtis, Evangel, Calvary, Parkview, and University.

In all other classes it's very competitive.

It's simple. Move Curtis and Evangel to 5A and Calvary, Parkview, and University to 4A. Problem solved.

Oh, and no more 0-10/1-9 teams making the playoffs. That is just ridiculous and laughable.

I think pre-spit, just having Curtis and maybe Evangel move up to the top class would have prevented it. The others are good but I don't think they've really put a decade or two stranglehold on classifications. Curtis has and Evangel at one time was getting very close (Though the advent of Calvary kind of took some of their ultra dominance away).

Now that the split is in place, I don't know of having 1 or 2 teams playing all the way up would be enough to do bring the publics and privates back together. But if it did I would be for it.

Curtis was never in 5-A. Evangel was the team in 5-A that nobody wanted a part of. The funny thing is you heard Rummel fans b*tch and moan all the time how they would have won state in 2001 and 2002 if not for having to play Evangel. The irony.........

Maybe 2002, but no one was beating WM in 2001 except Evangel. WM beat them in the regular season 38-17 and lead the entire time in the Dome before Evangel scored 14 in the last 4 minutes to win 34-27.
