Jindal on Chris Wallace Fox News Sunday--

Chris took it to him.
Jindal was typical--fast talking--two points, three points, absolutely, etc. Bunch of crap.
I can't stand to hear him say he cut state spending 26%. Lots of that is simply federal money after Katrina that quit running through the state budget.
He kept saying we have statewide school choice. That is a reach. We have school choice if you are in a bad school and you are poor. It is very limited. It would be great if we had statewide school choice for everybody as would be the assumption one might make hearing him talk.
He was really evasive about an exit poll yesterday that showed 69% of Louisiana voters do not think he would be a good president.
You know if he had spent 7 years here doing the things he wants people to think he did he wouldn't have to campaign for president. The republicans would be drafting him.

Like most politicians, I thought he dodged most of the specific questions.
I did find the results of that exit poll to be quite surprising. I've lived in Texas during Jindal's entire term in office, and I honestly don't know what kind of job he's done as Governor. I want to like him for multiple reasons, but I need to know if he derseves any real consideration from me, if and when he runs for President.
But yeah, 69% of Louisianians saying he wouldn't make a good President is nothing to simply dismiss.

I live in Louisiana, follow politics with a greater than average dedication and interest, am a self-proclaimed Conservatarian (BTW, I made that term up about 8 years ago and to the 2014 millennial adopters of it) and I don't know either.

Most of it is because the fact that he hasn't raised taxes and keeps cutting the budget on the shoulders of education and healthcare.

Most of which is due to circumstances he had nothing to do with. Let's see what the economy looks like after a year of >$70 oil.

There's a thread on the OT today about projects in S. LA already shutting down. Will Jindal be taking credit for that?

You misunderstood the >, or I mistyped it. I meant Less than $70.

So Zantrix do you want him to raise taxes??
I will defend Jindal on cutting higher ed (remember he did let them raise tuition so their budgets are not off much). He tried to close SUNO and it should have been closed. It is a black hole. I think it has budget of like $45 million and has about 2500 students and graduates hardly any. The higher ed crowd opposed him. Now why is that? All of that SUNO budget could have stayed in higher ed.
If the higher ed bureaucracy wants to maintain credibility in it's criticism of Jindal when he tries to do something to help--like closing SUNO an obvious waste--they need to support him.

He's probably better suited for Veep.

Most of his hallmark stuff was shot down in Court (Vouchers, retirement plans for state employees, etc).
What my biggest problem is with him is that he completely punted on the biggest potential impact he could've had in Louisiana with the mandate he created into office with.
Our Constitution is in tatters and was written by a fellow Crowley Rice Festival Board Member who served with former Governor Edwards named Camille Gravel. He was a shrewd man but he nor anyone else would confuse him with Jefferson or Franklin.
Edwards wrote our constitution in such a way as to protect state governmental budgetary funding for every department or segment save for that of Healthcare and Higher Ed. In doing so dared Republicans to cut such publicly supported aspects of government and ensured high levels of taxpayer funds invested in civil service.
Unless....
Unless someone came alongs with vision, ballsack and mandate to call a Constitutional Convention and rewrite it. Make everyone vulnerable and accountable to cuts and spread the hurt equally.
Jindal was more ideally placed and situated to do this-and in so doing evidence and guarantee lasting change in our state's History for the positive-than anyone since EWE was on the 4th Floor.
Instead, he did window dressing. He spent a surplus on interstates in Baton Rouge/Livingston and Ascension that included little to no quality inspection, ensuring repairs sooner rather than later, though he won't be in office to pay for it.
He cosmetically changed the name of a state agency and did essentially nothing to improve its day to day operation, though spoke as if he did.
He raided insurance funds, illegally passed on increased retirement costs and tried to blame Obamcare on increased insurance costs for state civil servants when it was the surplus he raided by diverting funds and playing accounting slight of hand.
He did a bunch of little silly things that appear as if he wanted to add them to talking points, not see real change and improvement occur.
Just disillusioned by his tenure, because he struck me as potentially transformative.

If anything statements were to best characterize Jindal's tenure as Governor, those above would be about perfect. Just throw in "a yellow streak down his back in being accessible to and answering questions from local and state outlets".

Exactly how I feel. I look at him as one of the "worst" this state has had simply because of his potential to do so much good, & he's completely wasted that opportunity. He's not corrupt in the criminal (EWE ) sense, he's above average in IQ, is a legit family man, so I hold him to a higher bar than those who preceeded him. Thus, I see his failure to be a much bigger "crime". I hope he gets appointed to be the Ambassador to Iceland & we never hear from him again.
