The committee made a mistake by ranking the top four.

If they keep the four team playoff format the committee should drop ranking the top four. They should simply state whether or not your team is in or out. This gives them more integrity (lol) if you will, for matching up playoff teams.

I thought it was stupid for them to rank them. Now they are boxed in.

They didn't make the mistake, it's what they're being asked to do. The mistake comes from higher up.

The mistake is releasing the top 4 so early. Now they have to explain how a team they have rankes in the top 4 for a few weeks drops out without losing.

Right. Everyone knows what the seeding going to be:

Bama vs. Noles
OSU vs. Ducks

And it's not based on where the best teams should be seeded. It's solely based on money and tradition.

CFB is still a joke but on the positive side it's getting less jokey.

No, they have it for a reason. The entire season matters. Not final week

Probably the same way it happens in computer polls or basketball RPI:

Teams very close behind play higher ranked competition that week.

Why not just do what the basketball committee does? Only ranking (seating) is the one the provide for the tournament.
