Why Must My Taxes Be Used to Fund PBS's Left-Wing Propaganda?

I was flipping channels this morning, and came across one installment of a PBS documentary entitled, "Life of Muhammed". Well, I figured I would check it out just long enough to get a feel for the overall theme of this documentary.

Sure enough, it didn't take long to determine that this "documentary" was nothing more than a full-on, worshipful BJ concerning the life and times of old Mo. Not only that, the segment I saw included a moderate dose of not-so-subtle Jew-bashing, portraying Jews as treaty-breaking, violent people who were intent on disrupting the peace-loving mantra of Muhammed and his fellow Muslims.

Completely disgusting. Look, these left-wing bastards have a right to spew their ridiculous propaganda, but they shouldn't be receiving taxpayer money in order to do so. Somebody in Congress with a pair of balls needs to stand up and fight to stop giving taxpayer funds to these left-wing kooks.

And, that wasn't even the most egregious example of left-wing propaganda that I witnessed. Right before I changed the channel, they showed a promo for a show called "America by the Numbers."This particular promo highlighted an upcoming episode about "the dangers of living in a homogeneous community."As I'm sure you can guess, the "community" was overwhelmingly white. They had one guy saying, almost apologetically, "Well, I am pretty conservative," and then they cut to a sign in a window which read, "Liberals are ignorant."

So, now if you're white and conservative, that's practically a crime?

Sorry this was kind of long, but not every issue can be described in a sound byte. I'm sure I'll get some flippant, one-line responses, but liberals wouldn't like it if some far right television network was being partly funded by their tax dollars.

If they did a documentary that was accurate, they would get their heads cut off.

This. The percentage of money PBS gets from taxes is relatively small. But the Dems would make hay out of any effort by the GOP to defund.

The amount of taxpayer funding might be small, but it should be -0-

If something is wrong, it's wrong.

PBS is ok. NPR has dove deep in pool of liberal kool-aid.

I don't think NPR gets nearly the corporate donations that PBS gets.

Frontline is probably the best documentary show on any channel on TV.

If you think PBS is okay, I respectfully suggest that you give it another look. You might want to start by watching the upcoming show where they slander a town because it's"too white" and, God forbid, too conservative.

You know, when even conservatives can't see what these left-wing bastards are doing, I guess there isn't much hope.

Honestly, I don't even comprehend why there is govt funding of public broadcasting AT ALL regardless of the slant they might have.

MAYBE one could've argued for the need when their were limited media outlets, but today?

Let's assume no such thing existed and it just got proposed yesterday? What the hell would the argument in favor of it be??

I haven't seen that particular documentary so I cannot speak to it.

Oh, it has a liberal slant to be sure. But so do all the other mainstream networks. Honestly even with their slant, I find them more tolerable than NBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN.

And as others have pointed out, they do have some great documentaries.

They might be using the Consumer Reports philosophy. CR does not accept advertising because it may slant their review of products. But PBS accepts tons of money from corporate sponsors. I doubt if they produce shows that rip into those donors.

White and conservative isn't a crime ....

Old age attitudes and beliefs that were prevalent and the norm in the 60s are though.

Many these conservatives should work on improving their image instead of being such hard-arse hardliners.

So, the fact that it's always been left wing is a reason to fund it with taxpayer dollars?

But anyway, SS, thanks for acknowledging that. I have to say, you are smarter than some of my conservative friends here. They apparently don't have a clue.
