Help me get over my anxiety of adopting a dog.

Wife found a dog that she wants to adopt. We both agreed that we want a more active dog for our daughter. Dog is allegedly crate trained, house broken, and knows simple commands. Female who is about a year old.
I think I want to, but I just worry about having the time and energy for a young dog again. I have gotten use to lazy and older dogs, but I hate watching my daughter trying to play with our current dog who doesn't want to do anything. We put one down not to long ago, and current one is getting up their in age.
Any advice?

You are about to make the biggest mistake of your life. You are going to regret this big time.

Just depends on the dog. We just adopted one that is about 1.5 years old. If you want her to play and run around she will. When we sit down to watch TV, she goes and lays down on her own.

I have an eight week old puppy. I would have much preferred to be in your situation. That you are considering a dog that is crate-trained, housebroken, and obeys simple commands seems to be a relatively easy situation to inherit. If you are thinking about your daughter you will get her this well behaved pup.

Take the plunge. You'll get a kick out of seeing your girl play with it. He will settle down. After a week or so, you will be cool.

Get some paxil or benzodiazepines

The dog is a year old? Just throw it in the backyard . She will be fine.

I tend to agree.
I am really into OPDs (other people's dogs).

That's a bit overkill. Personally, I would just go get a new puppy.

Yeah, we looked at puppies too.
However my wife is big into adopting dogs. This dog is from a no kill shelter and being fostered. I have gotten one dog like this before. It's actually our current dog. Also gotten one from the pound that went on to be my favorite dog. So the situation of getting an older dog doesn't worry me.
Just really find myself in a comfort zone with a low maintenance dog and worried about that being interrupted. Is that selfish?

Make sure the older dog can get along with the one you're looking to adopt. You don't want fighting or Mike Vick might show up wanting to move in.

It's not selfish. You already know the dog is going to require more of your time, energy, and patience. Sounds like you're probably going to regret the decision. Maybe compromise and find a dog that is just as satisfied being a couch potato with the family all day as well as running around with your daughter.

Last June I felt just like you're feeling now. We went ahead and adopted a puppy from the "Dog House" rescue shelter on Highland Road in BR.

No, you're not selfish. In the end, it's just a dog. Not every dog is meant to be adopted.
