If the BCS formula was still being used, we would still have same top 7...

By coming out on Tuesdays, you wonder how lazy the committee is being and how much they are leaning on the human and computer polls...

Well, it turns out that the old BCS system would have the same four schools but with one major difference. Florida State, who is no. 4 in the playoff ranking and in danger of falling out of the playoff picture, would be second in the BCS ranking with a clear gap between themselves and third-ranked Oregon.
So far, the only difference the BCS ranking would have produced are the semifinal matchups. Florida State would face Oregon in the first round instead of Alabama as they are set up in the playoff ranking.
But that could change if the committee decides to move Ohio State ahead of Florida State next week or Baylor ahead of TCU.
It should be noted that this is an approximation of the old BCS formula. The AP poll was substituted for the Harris Poll which no longer exists. Also, two of the computer rankings have eliminated slight modifications they made to their formula under the BCS system.
Here is how the top seven teams would likely be ranked under the BCS system as calculated by Natalie Pierre of AL.com (with current playoff ranking in parentheses):
1. Alabama, .96431 BCS points (1)
2. Florida State, .95977 (4)
3. Oregon, .92933 (2)
4. TCU, .86107 (3)
5. Ohio, .81466 (5)
6. Baylor, .79579 (6)
7. Arizona, .68736 (7)

I figured fsu would be number one.
Also, I'm not sure the committee is persuaded by the polls. I think the Tuesday release is so they can have the whole day to preview them. Sunday would interfere with NFL and Monday would interfere with NFL recaps and Monday night football. Tuesday, they talk about the Monday night game then preview the committee rankings all day.

Since 1 and 2 are paramount in the old BCS system, that's pretty significant. It'll be interesting to see the same comparison after the CCGs are over.
For now, even though it's close, I think the playoff committee has it right. No one except Noles fan thinks FSU should be #2.

Baylor should be in over TCU.
Sorry head to head matchups should account for at least 51% of all criteria. The other 49% could be whatever each individual feel worthy on a personal basis.
Why even play the games if H2H won't matter anyway?

Yeah that's what it is. It can't be Tuesday (NFL) and it can't be Monday (MNF).

Can't wait for G Tech to beat them.

ESPN dictated the release date to maximize ratings.

Agreed. This is the same system (BCS) that put ND in the NC because they were undefeated, when everyone outside of South Bend could tell you that they did not deserve to be there.

maybe, but I am still guessing there are some leaning on those polls to some degree.

definite possibility. don't think anyone really had a huge issue with the BCS rankings other than limiting it to the top 2 teams. I would have been fine using the same setup and just taking the top 4 instead of this committee.

There is a computer poll they look at, can't remember what it's called.

umm that notre dame team beat then #8 oklahoma (finished 11th) @ oklahoma pretty handily, then # 10 michigan state (finished unranked) @ michigan state pretty handily, then # 18 michigan (finished 18th), and then # 17 Stanford (finished 6th). I think they definitely proved they deserved to be there.

Based on the things I've read, the committee members use Sunday and Monday to watch all the relevant games, including tapes of the coach's cuts, to gather information before they meet on Tuesdays. Condoleezza Rice says she watches 14-15 games per week, and there's no way the AP voters can watch that many games before they turn in their ballots every Sunday morning, much less the members of the Coaches' Poll. Of course there will be a lot fewer games to watch this weekend, which probably explains why the Committee is releasing its rankings two days earlier this week.
