I'll post in this thread. I don't consider myself a "pumper" but I am a pro-Miles guy. When Saban left, I was disappointed . Not about losing Saban {never been a fan}, but disappointed because LSU would have to start over with a new coach and all that goes with it. I didn't know anything about Miles other than he coached at Okie State. So I wasn't real exited at the time. But Miles has proven to me to be a good coach and a loyal employee of the university. I have been frustrated with him at times but personally, I'm glad he's at LSU.

Nah our AD at the time was one of the best coaches at any level of sports. Is it quite possible he knew the characteristics of a coach that could succeed? Which is why we past on the scum bag petrino.

I didn't know much about Las, but he finished up by pulling rp and keeping jimbo on staff and hiring pelini that had some solid D's at nebraska. So I was pretty excited a long with jmarc becoming the full time starter.

Why can't anyone just say we made the rt hire at the time? Doesn't mean alleva will. We went through 8 coaches in 24 seasons after McClendon. We've gone through 1 in 10 with Les. So history tells me that we could have continued the previous trend. And would have with the petrino hire.

I knew him from the 'will play any sucker in the country' video clip that went somewhat viral. That's about it. In hindsight, he was a good hire.

And if you did a Lil research you'd see how OSU was complete shite before Les. You think LSU was bad? They were never ever as bad as Oklahoma State.

I wasn't excited about the hire.

After seeing what Pete Carroll, a former NFL head coach at the time, did at USC, I would have been really excited about Del Rio coming to Baton Rouge, being that he brought the Jags to the playoffs as their head man.

I warmed up to Les after seeing how quirky he was at press conferences, which was refreshing after the Saban years.

I started to become critical after Jamarcus' last year with us (specifically during the Auburn non-pass interference game). We should have won a national title with that team.

The timing of Saban screwed us. Spurrier and Meyer had already found jobs and the main names floating around at the time iirc were Petrino, Del Rio, Miles, Tedford, Ferentz, rich rod. I was hoping for del rio or Petrino.

I was hoping for Del Rio too. I didn't know a thing about Miles when we hired him but I figured Skip knew what he was doing. Maybe he did...that's not exactly a who's who of coaching names right there.

One question I've always had is, was no consideration given to promoting Jimbo from within? With hindsight, it might have been a good move.
no one was exactly enamoured with Jimbo.. His offenses were ok but not stellar under Saban. He had no head coaching experience and the fan base would have been more disappointed in his hire at the time than miles. At least miles had been a head coach at a major school and had reasonable success- his wins over Oklahoma is what got him the job. I don't think the FSU fan base was all that thrilled with jumbo as the coach in waiting. They were excited about him as OC but we're definitely not excited about him as a head coaching candidate.

Step back from Saban - no doubt.
Oklahoma State would not trade him back for Gundy

I was underwhelmed, but willing to give him a chance.

First 3 years were great. Year 4 is when the bloom started coming off the rose for me. By the morning of Jan. 10th, 2012, I was done.

I remember the final 3 rumored candidates to be Petrino, Mike Leach and Miles. Petrino "dropped out" when he realized he wouldn't be the choice.

Same with Saban. He was LSUNick here, not BamaNick, not everyone was thrilled, most didn't know who he was

I was hopeful. Okie State had been really bad for a long time and he had won there so I thought he had a chance to keep us rolling, which he did.

I liked the hire. He was my first choice out of the candidates we interviewed.

Remember $aban's record with Sparty was 6-6, 6-6, 6-6, 6-6, 10-2.

BS. He had school record breaking offenses in 2001 and 2003 but keep on with the narrative.
