There seems to be a lot of racism up north lately.

I thought that was only a southern problem.

Racism has always been worse in the northern urban cities. Blacks and whites in the south, ironically, due to being inter mingled so much since antebellum days have enjoyed a much larger degree of harmony since integration.

I'm always stunned (not anymore) when I travel up north. The lack of diversity is glaring. But I grew up in and around New Orleans so that's my reference point.

Boston is probably the most racist city in the country. I work with a guy from NJ and he tells me that where he's from there are very clear lines drawn as to who lives where in reference to race.

Not only that, but let a black guy go into a white bar and the chances of him getting a beatdown are much more greater than in the South.

And likely many of those same people that live behind these imaginary racial lines thumb their noses and call southerns racist because they vote GOP. At least I get that sentiment from the likes of MSNBC, NBC and other MSM outlets.

I was in Boston for week and I didn't even see any black people. Ok I saw two, the hotel manager and the cab driver.

If you look at actions towards one another directly the north is more racist.

The south has the appearance of being racist due to segregation and slavery in the past, and in the modern day Southerners just have a "tell it how it is" attitude with no regard for political correctness and many people can't handle that. The South is worse about stereotyping blacks then actually acting out hatred towards them.

This is why the "south is racist" narrative is so goddanmed annoying.

Sure, the south probably has more negative interactions between blacks and whites but that's a function of the fact that there are exceedingly few places in the south where blacks and whites don't interact on a constant basis.

You could be the most racist mother fricker on the planet and if you lived in central Indiana, you could go your whole life without so much as saying a cross word to a black person.

I've always felt that New Orleans is one of the most racially neutral cities in the country. It is one of few places where people really do not see color.

At least comparatively.

These are the same kind of people that come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras or a Saints game, piss in the streets, and then go home and complain to anybody who will listen about how bad the FQ smells.

These people come down here, act like fools in ways they'd never dream of acting at home, and then have the gall to tell everyone back home how backwards WE are.

My high school outside of Chicago had a black student. One. I've lived on the East coast, I've lived in the upper Midwest, and I've lived throughout the South and racism is a lot worse up there then it is down here.

And, that really is wholly unsurprising.

At no point in my life while in the south have I had the ability to simply never interact with blacks. This goes for out and out racists too. As such, even out and out racists have generally figured out how to navigate life in the south without constant conflict.

In the north, there are still many places where one could go years without dealing with minorities. And, even in the cities, the numbers still dictate that blacks are just less common. Hell, even in diverse NYC, blacks are only 25% of the population(and pretty segregated at that)

Contrast that with Louisiana's largest cities.
New Orleans - 60%
Baton Rouge - 40%
Metarie - 10%
Lafayette - 29%
Lake Charles - 47%

I could go on. The point is, probably the most "diverse" city in the north practically meets the southern standard for being a "White" city.

Some numbnuts from Boston on another site was trying to give me "the south has always been more racist" crap. I just show him the picture below and say, "I forget, in what southern city did this take place again?" Always ends the argument quickly...hehe
