Jeweler question: Is it proper to ask to exchange/trade up?

Wife wants a new band in exchange for her two existing bands that butt up to her engagement ring. Is a trade-up something a jeweler does or will my jeweler be offended if I ask him this?

Does the band have diamonds in it? I could see them buying the diamonds back and you using that as credit for new band.

Not sure but I don't see why they would be offended if you ask.

No, I wouldn't think so. The jewelry will have some value, even if it is just the weight of the metal. They may not buy it, but I see no reason why they would be offended.

Will the jeweler be offended if you want to buy more jewelry from him? IM SURE HE WILL.

Absolutely.
You're going to take a beating on it though, so it's almost better to buy what you want and put what you already own away since it does have some precious metal value.

Patton's Jewelers in BR has always allowed me to trade up. They will give you what you paid towards your next purchase. Jewelry markup is astronomical, so I don't think they are hurting by doing this.

didn't think so. we usually communicate via email and texts and he hasn't responded. I thought he might be offended. I will call him up. He should be good as I recently referred him a doctor friend of mine that upgraded his wife to a baller ring.

Many places apply will give you fill credit on the prior purchase on an upgrade.
