Would have been gold if Brad rolled up with a ppt and asked for a computer

I read chasing the game but I don't remember mentions of Friedel being a douche. What did it say?

Just an overview of the Friedel - Keller thing and how he took his ball and went home when Bruce wouldn't declare him the undisputed #1.

More than anything, it sounds like Brad was pissed that an American GK was getting looked at by the best club in the EPL while he was slogging away at Blackburn.
This.
This whole situation just screams salty.

Friedel is the best American keeper of all time
No, he's not, Tim Howard is.
If this stuff is true, wow. What a piece of dog shite Friedel is. I kind of always had a feeling the guy was a tool anyway. If that brutal, practiced, scripted arse accent he has wasn't enough to confirm what a douche the guy is, this story just nailed the coffin shut.

The excerpts from this book are awesome
quote:
At halftime, Ferguson just about took my head off.
Ferguson was famous for what the media referred to as his "hair dryer treatments," so-called because he'd blow such blistering air at you, it felt like your hair was being straightened.
"A three-man wall!" he shouted, the muscles around his jaw so tight I could see them flex. "Against Henry! You needed four men on that wall. You've got to think" -- he jabbed both index fingers at his forehead -- "when you play this game."
My teammates were quiet. I had heard enough about Ferguson to know that they'd all been through this themselves. But frankly, it scared the wits out of me.
"If you cannae handle the f------ stage" -- his Scottish accent was coming through loud and clear -- "I'll send you right back to the MLS."
The disdain in his voice when he said "MLS" was palpable.

nah man. Friedel is the best. Howard is a great keeper and an awesome dude but its Friedel

Friedel is the most skilled American keeper, and it's not really a discussion.
Howard and Keller are 1a and 1b (in that order) as the greatest keeper to wear a US jersey - because of longevity and commitment to the cause. Friedel doesn't really enter that discussion (in my mind) because he was only the #1 for one cycle (1998-2002).

When I say the greatest, I mean talent wise. His 2002 World Cup was one of the best performances I've ever seen. Being a dickhead keeps him from going down in American folklore as a legend but I don't think any other keeper we've had compares to how freaking good Friedel was.

Brad is an arrogant prick.
Its been documented from his EPL and National team days.
When he works as a pundit , he is very stand offish. Which is ok if you can have a crack and get everyone laughing on the panel. He doesn't.

Friedel, however, told ESPN FC's Doug McIntyre on Wednesday that he never "wrote a letter of negativity towards Tim Howard to anybody in this world."
Seems like an overly specific denial.

Maybe so. You would know better than me. To be honest, Friedel was pretty much out of his prime by the time I even knew who the hell he was so I guess I'm a little partial towards Timmy.

USA/South Korea 2002 World Cup (in Korea) Full Game
Watch this. It's like what Timmy did v. Belgium, but on steroids.
