Knows the SEC and Texas area very well. Good recruiter. Would be a good hire for A&M IMO.

Lets put it this way...if you don't get Muschamp...how high on the backup list is Chizik for Auburn? Is he even on it?

Auburn hiring Gus as DC would be the most awkward and odd coaching setup ever

had a lot of talent on his defenses at Auburn when he was a coordinator there.

Karlos Dansby, Dontarriuos Thomas, Reggie Torbor, Carlos Rogers, Jay Ratliff, Spencer Johnson, DeMarco McNeil.

plus Joe Whitt was a good LB's coach at Auburn. Coached there many years and that position was never really a weakness.

Chizik had plenty of resources. He's a fricking goof.

When he was here as a DC the defenses were great. But they were also great under Muschamp, Rhoades and any other D we had under Tuberville.

When he was here as HC, defense was god awful. Could not tackle for shite. DBs never turned their heads. Corners played 10 yards off the ball and NEVER came up.

Also, FWIW Paul Rhoades complained when he took over for Chizik at ISU that he had to completely reteach the players how to tackle.

Which leads me to 2 possible conclusions: (1) Tubs didn't let Chizik mess with the defense when he was here. (2) Chizik's bend don't break philosophy doesn't work anymore with how much offenses have improved.

And no. He's no where on the list for Auburn. But we do have a coach that was a Coordinator under him and that would be incredibly awkward.

His defense was great at Auburn during the undefeated season in 2004 but average or below every other year he was at Auburn. He is a disciple of Monte Kiffin and the Tampa 2 style of defense. I have heard people who are more knowledgeable than me say it would be difficult for that style of defense to work against the wide open spread type of offenses they are prevalent in football today. Monte Kiffin himself was pretty much a failure as a defensive coordinator at Tennessee and Southern Cal in recent years.

I seriously doubt Chizik would be a candidate for anything under Malzahn because the two no longer like each other after Chizik meddled in Malzahn's offense back in 2011. This is why Malzahn left Auburn for Arkansas State
