I'm sure there's another thread on this somewhere but the search function here sucks. I just watched it for the first time and have no idea what that was about.

It's just a tongue and cheek joke to acknowledge Howard the Duck.
The real thing to pay attention to in this post credit scene is that the cocoon that supposedly houses Adam Warlock was open.

I haven't seen GotG, but I'm going to assume the post-credit scene was just a setup for another sequel.

I think this Marvel post credit scene may be the exception.

A little background (at least as much as I know/remember):
Howard the Duck was a comic and comic character that developed something of a cult following in (I think) the '70's. He was an a humanoid duck transported from whatever world/dimension he was from. He was a kind of cigar chomping, wisecracking "every-man" character who happened to be a duck and got into adventures that included things like cow vampires.
Then they made what I think is highly regarded as one of the worst movies of all times featuring him. Bad story. Bad production values. Oh yeah, and some pretty disturbing bed room scenes between Howard the Duck and Lea Thompson's character (a human rock singer). Check out youtube if you're into that sort of thing.

This might not be accurate, it's been a while, but.....
I think Warlock has been a part of the Gaurdians at one time or another to include the team leader. He played a huge part in "Infinity Gauntlet" I think, which is the original infinity stones story from the comics. He is also a cosmic being, meaning extremely powerful.
Not sure if accurate, it has been a long time since I read those comics

i just read up on him on wiki. Basically some Scientists created him as a perfect human. He revolted from them and went on adventures to get the soul gem, protect earth and earth clone worlds with the help of different people (avengers, draxx, silver surfer, thanos) and he was in possession of the Gauntlet for a while until some interstellar beings told him he should have all of the gems so he divided them up between his friends.

If people had to use the search field instead of creating new topics, some people may never see the topic and the forum wouldn't have enough traffic.

Same amount of traffic. Unless the thread is anchored, it'll bump to the top and give people the opportunity to add to the thread.
