UNLV is actually considering hiring a high school head football coach to take over its program. Albeit a highly successful one.

Bishop Gorman may have been on the ESPN channels more than UNLV this year.

I remember North Texas hiring Southlake Carroll's coach and it didn't end well. Coaches can jump from high school to college and be successful but they have to be assistant's first. It's a completely different animal.

Will be a disaster. UNLV can't recruit like Bishop Gorman and not get hammered by the NCAA.

but at a lower level school, does it REALLY matter if a couple of seasons are 2-10, rather than 4-8 or whatever? i mean, it's not gonna set them back that far, so they can try it and see how it works out... hell, it might work well...

that shite may not fly for a major program, but for schools with lower expectations anyway, it may be worth the shot.... there's no guarantee someone with college coaching experience would do any better or worse anyway... that's my point....

They may as well drop football if their program has sunk to that level.

I would disown my school's football team if they made that hire. How would he build a staff? Recruit? Have a clue how to deal with the NCAA rules and regulations? Zero college coaching experience and played at New Mexico State?

It's UNLV, they're probably trying to generate some local buzz if anything.

What they're trying to buy w/ the hire is the Fertitta's money and capitalize on the popularity of the UFC.

The line of thought is with Fertitta's backing, the dollars could be raised to improve facilities and their training standards. They could get buy ins from other tycoon's and start pulling UFC fans across the world into becoming UNLV football fans.

Honestly, BYU and UNLV should be the next 2 teams the Pac 12 looks at for expansion. However, for UNLV to attract the kind of talent it'll take to make them a continual contender, there's going to be major NCAA infractions, and w/ the trouble that school's been in before, the NCAA may make an example out of them if given a chance to.
