Minecraft Tablet PC Help

I would like to get my son a tablet PC for Christmas that will run the full version of Minecraft. He loves playing it on my Surface Pro 3, but I am hoping to find something in the $500 range. I don't know enough about what the computer needs tech-wise to make an informed decision. Any suggestions?

Find a surface pro 1 or 2. I play it on my SP1 all the time

Yea it runs android. I'm sure pocket craft would be awesome with the controller on there though
