I'm in need of a puppy

I need a very young puppy for my kids for Christmas. We have been looking online but everyone is selling nothing but overpriced "pure" breeds. We just want a good mid sized mutt. What you got OT?

How far are you willing to travel?

Go to the SPCA, and to various shelters in your community. Problem solved.

Mid sized mutt screams Shelter dog or Petsmart adoption days

If you're in BR, just look up Companion Animal Alliance, there are always good dogs in need of a home, including puppies.

Yes. Exactly.

Be careful and don't fall for a puppy just because it's cute and adorable. Genetic traits, both good and bad, are passed down to puppies. Buying from a breeder helps you take some of the uncertainty out of the equation. I hope you're up for the training.

If you are just starting to look for a puppy for your kids for christmas, there's a good chance you don't "need a puppy."

Go to a shelter and rescue a dog dude.

Go to the shelter and pick one up.

Have two of 'em. Awesome dogs.

Dude, go adopt. I was never an advocate of adopting, but we adopted a young canine about 2 months ago and it was a great decision. I'll definitely look into it again

Puppy mills are your best bet

Go to a breeder, not some rescue or shelter nonsense.

My wife has been looking for a few weeks but has yet to find something acceptable yet. We went a couple of shelters in the last few weeks but everything we have been finding has been older than we want. We had to put our last dog down last year and finally feel like we are ready for a new one.

The "Dog House" on Highland Road in Baton Rouge (near and across from Sammy's Grill) is a great place to pick up a dog, of any age.
They microchip, neuter and guarantee their dogs are heart worm free. Total cost is $100.
We got our puppy there. Most of the people there are volunteers.
I think the technical name of the place is "The Friendship House."
