City officials in Ferguson, Mo. were due Sunday to address the resignation of Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot and killed teenager Michael Brown in a confrontation in August that fueled protests in the St. Louis suburb and around the nation.

Stephanie Karr, Ferguson city attorney, told the Associated Press that city officials planned to make a statement regarding Wilson's resignation. Karr earlier this week said Wilson had been on paid leave pending the outcome of an internal police investigation.

Wilson's resignation was announced Saturday by one of his attorneys, Neil Bruntrager, who said his client's decision was effective immediately.

"I have been told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow,” Wilson said in his resignation letter released late Saturday.

“It was my hope to continue in police work, but the safety of other police officers and the community are of paramount importance to me. It is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal,” the letter read

He should receive a metal first. At least he's rich now (relative to cop salary) and can walk away a hero...

I'm no fan of Peter King, but I'm glad somebody had the balls to say that Obama should invite Darren Wilson to the White House. Somebody needs to stand up and tell the truth about this shameful, and totally unjustified, glorification of a thug whose own criminal behavior caused his death.

Will Obama meet with Wilson? OF COURSE NOT! The Racebaiter-in-Chief is one of the main assholes who has bent over backwards to make this case something it never was.

Obtw, anybody remember 4-5 people here who kept saying, "I want to withhold comment until after the grand jury has reached their verdict"???. They have all either disappeared now, or else they are saying, "Well, maybe police treatment of blacks wasn't evident in this case, but we need to look at the bigger picture."

Those guys were never interested in the truth about what happened in Ferguson.

I hope he's taken care of financially. Wilson did his job...didn't let that sociopathic rogue get a free walk back into terrorizing his community. Exactly what we hire Cops to do...and exactly what Brown's community needs if they are to long survive. Because the day the Cops quit taking care of business...is the day that the well-armed and pissed off civil citizenry take up the slack.

And Obama/Holder lauds/protects the thugs...and slams the good Cops. This stuff is prophesied in the Good Book. Mother Nature will handle this is we don't.

Black guest on Fox News Sunday lying and spinning his arse off on this subject.

ETA. Oh, no wonder. He's the Brown's lawyer.

I wonder what he does now. Time to move far away and go into the private sector. Although, I'm sure he can live for a few years without working due to the money raised for him.

That dude has been moving the goal line since the whole thing exploded; ambulance chaser. And Brown's mom and stepdad are prime clients.

I suspect they hope for a non-trial settlement, but I think it might be good for all the dirty laundry to come out in court. In fact, I think it might serve true justice for Wilson to counter sue in any instance which may be applicable...if there are any.

If we let this stuff go...it gets worse by the day. And like Ebola...has the potential to infect every single community's race relations.

Interesting that you talk about the biblical implications of this. I've become extremely disillusioned regarding the reaction to this case. While a majority of people see the truth about what really happened, it seems like about 30% of Americans have lost their damn minds.

Unfortunately, that 30% includes a race-baiting pos President and Attorney General. At a time such as this, all I know to do is turn to God, knowing that He is in charge of all things.

As for having a racially divisive President, I prayed over a year ago and asked God to give me a word about Obama. I immediately turned to Psalm 37:35-36. People here can discount this to their heart's desire, but I know I didn't turn to those verses, in a 1,500 page Bible, by happenstance.

Two more years, and Obama and his racially divisive administration will be relegated to the ashbin of history. We will get thru this.

I'm sure he is being taken care of financially. Chances are he reached an agreement with the state or the local pd.

Who here really didn't know he was going to resign? The instant this became such a blow up media circus, it was bound to happen.

This was definitely going to happen. If he'd been indicted he'd have stayed on for the legal support, then resigned. Just impossible for him to make the right decision here.

He should be able to keep working, but can't. Resigning isn't really the right thing to do, because he should be able to keep doing what he was doing. Just an all around shitty situation for the dude, and it seems like he'll need to change his name and get plastic surgery to even have a normal life at this point.

Heard on tv news this morning that his new bride is also on the Ferguson force. Some people have indicated that she too should resign. She says she will not.

His wife will have to resign, too. Wilson did nothing wrong, but those sorry bastards would kill him in a heartbeat if they could get to him. His wife, too.

I guess this is what we have come to in 2014 America.

Can't imagine the city of Portland opening their collective arms to Darren Wilson. I'm sure many there are very sympathetic to the rioters of Ferguson.

What "kind of thing" do you think this is, FT?

To me, this situation consists of a law enforcement officer not doing a single thing wrong, a grand jury looking at the evidence and seeing no need to indict, and yet, a portion of society is still acting like Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown in cold blood.

Even if it isn't a brand new dynamic, it still says a lot about where we are.

Two things were always certain:

Wilson was never again going to be able walk a beat in Ferguson and the hands up, don't shoot crowd was going to spin his resignation into an admission of wrong doing.
