Anyone following the animosity between Marvel/Disney and Fox due to Star Wars and the Marvel IPs, it's a pretty interesting fight over IP rights. Marvel is cancelling the F4 comic and now in this Punisher #12 (an IP back at Marvel Studios) the cast of the F4 is killed.

So in short this thread has been picked up by the Internet, citing us as sources.

Comic Con update:

All you need to know about the "Fantastic Four" panel
Sadly, we’re saving the most awkward part of the evening for last. Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" is opening in less then a month on August 7. The only new footage shown to 6,000 potential tastemakers was a new "final" trailer. A trailer where it appears you can easily spot the reshoot footage from the movie's climactic third act. What's so strange about this is that the movie is basically finished and no individual scenes were shown. Comparatively, Fox showed extended sequences from both "Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" and "Victor Frankenstein" which open in September and late November respectively. As previously mentioned, Singer cut a preview based on just five weeks of footage for "Apocalypse." Perhaps it will exceed expectations, but the idea Fox would not show more from a tentpole film opening just next month was somewhat…damning.

Winners and Losers of Comic Con

After seeing that insane Deadpool and X-Men footage, who even remembered having seen Fantastic Four stuff as well? They had a last chance to spark some fan interest in this new movie, and it just didn’t happen. The fact that the trailer included dialogue like “If we do this, we’re doing it my way” didn’t help.

Embargo

FANTASTIC FOUR embargo lifts... 4pm PST the day before the movie comes out. Hmm. (That's for online. Print embargo lifts day of release.)

True, what I've read is that Marvel isn't creating any new mutants either. They've pulled the posters of the F4 off Marvel offices and the book is cancelled.

That being said, Marvel is taking this reboot of the F4 pretty personal-the F4 was the book that launched everything, so I kind of get it. All of Marvel IPs out there- the F4 is the most Disney property. Hell, The Incredibles is an homage to the F4.

Fox has yet to release a logo new movie. Fox of course is pissed that Disney now has Star Wars. Disney hired Trank to direct a Star Wars spin-off that would take him off of the proposed sequel to this reboot. The release date has already been pushed back to August. There is a rumor that Marvel screen roll won't appear on this movie.

I'm kind of enjoying the fight between Fox and Disney/Marvel. Would make a good movie in itself.

After the crap Trank pulled in Baton Rouge, i doubt he ever directs a studio picture again. He will certainly never work for Fox. At this point that F4 reboot might never get released.

A buddy of mine was on the crew. Trank showed up to set late or so high he couldn't speak almost everyday. Some days he didn't show up at all. He treated crew terribly. He trashed the house the production company rented for him. From what I'm told he did a couple hundred grand worth of damage.

can confirm what is bolded. not sure about the rest but could find out.

I kind of want to know two things:

1) At what point did Marvel bow out intellectually? I mean they have SOME say in the production, unless Fox closed the door on them. If they did, and then they went ahead with this project, well that's on Fox. It seems to stray far from the core idea and is nothing more than a cash grab. In this case, Marvel has a right to be slightly offended. If Marvel was in when these Trank (who I never really liked) and young cast talks started, then eh, that's on Marvel.

2) If they didn't kick Marvel out. what did one say to the other to create this kind of bad blood?

Sounds professional. It took one movie for Hollywood to get to him?

Don't be surprised if by the time Avengers 2 is released, that Quicksilver and Witch are retconned into being Inhumans in the books.

Not sure how they're going to go about that. Maybe their mother was an Inhuman?

Let's say Marvel DOES get F4 back, if no other reason than for the Skrulls. Who would you cast if the characters are older and established?

Reed Richards: Neil Patrick Harris
Susan Storm: Bitsie Tulloch (I know shes a redhead)
Johnny Storm: Liam Hemsworth
Ben Grimm: John Cena

Directing a Star Wars standalone for Disney.
