What would the positives and negatives be of Coach Ed "Bay Bay" Orgeron being added to the LSU Football Defensive Staff?

Do you have a personal opinion of him outside of what you think the positives and negatives are? Would you be so kind to share them with the group?

man, I was all ready with a "Mike Bobo" post when I saw hypothetical staff changes in the title.

eta: Bobo and Bebe! yeah, I like that.

He's not a very smart man, has been to rehab a couple of times, his wife has pulled restraining orders on him, and he seems to attract a lot of smoke regarding illegal recruiting activity.

I am friends with a few of his ex-players from Ole Miss and their stories about him would scare the shite out of people. I won't regurgitate those on the internet though.

That being said, he is a good/dirty recruiter and a good DL coach. If Miles and Chief can reign him in, I might be open to the idea one day. He has a TON of fire and his players love playing for him.

However, I am pretty sure he hates LSU and won't ever coach here.

ETA:
One cool thing, he dips coffee grinds.

Also, took his shirt off and competed in Big Cat drills with no helmet against his players at Ole Miss

The moral antithesis of Les Miles. A train wreck in the making. Someone who will completely "undo" the LSU football program as a dirty recruiter. A "stay as far away as possible from him" kind of guy.

Did they enjoy playing for him?

He seemed like a player's coach. I'm okay with him if he can teach the DL and recruit without getting us in trouble. The personal stuff doesn't bother me.

Did any recruiting violation occur during his tenure at Ole Miss or USCw. I know he didn't really have the job at USCw, but did he do anything out of the norm? Are most opinions on him personal, or football related?

Whatever happened to the SEC making its own rules outside of the NCAA control? If that happens, bring O here ASAP.

Yeah they really did, but the one player who is one of my best friends will always say that Orgeron was the dumbest coach on his staff. My friend is a pretty smart guy and says O couldn't really hold conversations about anything except football

I won't get into specifics, but as head coach at Ole Miss there were things he did that would be shock you regarding improper benefits

Also, he covered up a lot of incidents for his players off the field. That being said, Oxford police are second only to Hitlers SS in terms of aggressiveness and illogical arrests.

Can you describe Miles' morality and then contrast it? I don't disagree that you may feel this way, but can you point to specifics that inform this opinion?

Can you elaborate?

You do realize we have had issues with recruiting before with former coaches during the Miles tenure and some refer to issues to this day? Can you point to what he's done or how he's done it with a link or a personal story that informs this opinion?

Why?

You know who was fantastic at doing that while he was here and is still great at it now? Nick Saban.

That's actually a huge plus/check mark in my book.

And all were fired.

Do you want to hire someone knowing they'll be fired?

Didn't necessarily say it was a bad thing, just giving all information from him I know of.

Can you list the jobs Orgeron was fired from other than the University of Mississippi?

By all accounts and purposes, many of the SC players wanted O to be kept on as HC.

Well he had to leave Miami after drunkenly assaulting a host at a restaurant and checking himself into rehab for cocaine and alcohol.

But yeah, other than that no.

quote:

Starting in 1991, a series of personal problems began to surface for Orgeron: a local woman filed a restraining order against Orgeron, accusing him of repeatedly attacking her. In July 1992, Orgeron was arrested for his part in a bar fight in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Orgeron acknowledged he had been intoxicated that night and had grown angry when not allowed back inside to retrieve his credit card.[7] In October 1992, Orgeron took a leave of absence from the University of Miami coaching staff for personal reasons; the departure turned out to be a permanent one

So in summation, this guy has done over 99% of the major career progression in terms of his professional development since a string of incidents occurred, the last of which took place 24 years ago?
