Well yeah, but it pisses me off.
Mail that shite back. They shouldn't get to auction it off.

Funny story on how bureaucracies work - coming back from Iraq, I had to go through "customs" in Kuwait. It was military, and the Navy ran most of that. I'm not sure if the cat was a contractor, GS civilian or Navy, but I forgot to pack several empty M9 (Beretta 92F) magazines in my checked bags.

They already had my checked bags, so I had to leave them (those were extra I found, so I wasn't signed for them anyway). I just always found it funny that I could bring the ACTUAL M9 on the charter flight, but no empty magazines. I mean, I put the M9 on the conveyer belt and they handed it back to me on the other side of the metal detector, but I couldn't bring the little aluminum box that might hold ammunition for the weapon some day...

and who is going to pay for the thousands of items that get confiscated daily to get shipped back? how many people are going to have to be hired to handle that shite?

here's some advice, don't try and sneak shite on that you know is not allowed

well either it was trying to be snuck on or the traveler did not do research on what is and is not allowed

Right. It's only one of those two things that happens 100% of the time.

sounds like a personal problem. I've had shite confiscated multiple times due to forgetting it was in my bag. oh well, either go back and check it in or deal with losing it

I disagree. The costs to fly have gone up enough. Could you imagine how much it would cost for this to happen?

Follow the rules and you won't lose anything.

In the case that the item is not listed on the "not allowed list" online, and you can show them proof of that, I agree. Otherwise, there should be the option to mail it to yourself at a kiosk at best. They shouldn't be responsible for people not following directions, but they should make it a little more convenient for honest mistakes.

Right after 9/11 a company started a business putting a mailing box at the checkpoints that charged like $10 for a stamped box that TSA would throw items in and mail it to your house. You put $10 in the machine and gave the box and your address to TSA. Guess what? No one wanted to pony up $10 for a hand sanitizer and shampoo. Company went broke.
