Not worth 14.5mil/yr, but I'd be lying if I said he wasn't worth more than these 3:
8mil/yr (OJ Mayo)
7.87mil/yr (Marcus Thorton)
7.3mil/yr (Arron Afflalo)

If his knees can hold up, re-signing him for 7-8mil would be pretty okay with me actually.

i see what youre saying and agree that he is better than those four players, but worth 7-8 with his injury problems is just not plausible. and also with that fact thag he has been inconsistent even when he plays.
i personally would rather affalo at 7.3mil than eg at 7.3mil considering injuries and consistency

My mistake, I typed out of my arse. I didn't mean to include Afflalo in my argument.

I think EG is worth a 7-8mil/contract even with his injury history. His shoulder injury was a bad luck injury and he played 64 games last year before we shut him down for the season. If he can stay relatively healthy, I think many teams would gamble on him with a 2 or 3yr contract.

I wanted us to somehow trade and land Afflalo before he got traded. Solid SG on a 7.3mil/yr contract (5yr/36.71mil in 2011). He'll probably land a nice 9mil/yr contract after his contract is up going into 2016 (Yay same time as...us!)

Barely on these two

No, he is not. He is an undersized shooting guard, that is not that great of a shooter and a shell of what he was athletically. As a FA I don't think he would sniff anything more than a one year contract. The injury history is beyond extensive and much worse than you make it seem (4 major injuries in 5 seasons- wrist, knee that may never heel, ankle and shoulder). If he needs surgery, he will have missed over 150 games in 4 years with our team. He will have played in less than 130. There is no doubt he will pick-up his option next season and after that, he will probably never play again.

To say he is worth more than healthy, contributing players at this point just doesn't make sense. Especially specialists that make dramatically less money than him. You point out Thornton. Thornton is still considered one of the most explosive bench scorers in the league. I'd take him over a healthy Gordon at the same salary on this team in a heartbeat. I don't know anybody else that would pick Gordon (until you spoke up).

His current worth is not that high, but with the SG position being so thin and players playing this position getting overpaid for average production, it is possible.

I've said it, key word relatively healthy, for the remainder of his contract here, no team would pay for him?

An undersized 6'4 215lb SG that plays solid defense and averages:
32MPG
14.5PPG
2.5RPG
3.1APG
2.0TOV
1.2SPG
0.2BPG
shooting 43.1/38.5/77.8

as his team's 3rd/4th option? Anthony Morrow is getting paid 3.3mil/yr being a sharpshooter. Hell, even JJ Redick is being paid 7mil and he is the ultimate defensive liability playing in only 63 games in 2012 and 2013.

Even with his extensive injury history, some team would gamble on him if his body held up relatively well going into 2016 FA.

When I say relatively well, I'm saying 66+games/season (~80%) of games

Those are career averages bolstered off a great start. His numbers have been dipping down each season. I'm not even going to bring up his numbers this season. A lot will depend on how he returns next season and what he plays like then. He will be returning from surgery and it's hard to say how he will fit into the rotation as a lame duck.

That ship has already sailed. He is already injured. If is super productive next season, then maybe. But I don't see that happening. Either way, he is going to be under tremendous medical scrutiny, if he can even pass most team's physicals. They have been very secretive about his knee and he might not be insurable on a new contract. That and can we even predict his motivation? 15M is a hell of a pay day.

Great examples. But each of those guys are considered exceptional shooters, which is a very in demand skill. There is also a timing element to their signings. Reddick and Morrow just hit the market at the right time. It's hard to say Gordon will make a similar splash. Those contracts you pointed out (and others) could create a backlash, where teams just decide to gamble on cheap college SGs or international guards. Thornton hits the market this summer. I'm betting he doesn't anymore than 3M, if that much. You think he is getting more?

I agree with you on the injury part but think what Thornton gets is irrelevant. Gordon is established as a starting caliber player, so I think he can still get at least MLE if healthy at the time of FA.

Interesting conundrum. Stretch Gordon and take a $5.1 cap hit for 3 years, at least $8 per year total when you consider the cost of replacing him, or get him to opt out and sign for 4/$28. I'm still done with him, but when you consider all the costs involved I don't think it's impossible that he's here long term.

As much as I do not like the guy... we could have used him tonight.

That said we missed a ton of shots we normally make... maybe it was the road trip?
