Good post. I can't believe what I've seen from Evans this year, either.

Haven't read the thread, but I just watched Cutler get lots of pressure yet was smart enough to throw it up high to Jeffrey. Any reason Brees isn't throing high TDs to Graham in the end zone as much I wonder?

Yeah, Brees needs to be like Jay Cutler.

Brees is dealing with pressure so much better than Cutler.

Make no mistake, I think Brees is the man and Cutler is pretty bad, but if you guys think the Saints have been great at the goal line this year, we're not watching the same games.

Eta: I'm more talking about play calling than Brees, I should have stipulated.

Well, yeah.

No one is defending the playcalling.

Even with shitty play calling though, Graham needs to be more involved at the goal line. Brees can audible. I don't like the talking heads on TV but when you constantly hear them asking where's Graham, it's just weird they're not trying more.

Remember, Jimmy is gonna deal with that rotator cuff/shoulder injury all season.

His arms can't go past his shoulder for those jump balls. With that gone, you see Brees throw it more towards the level of his chest.

Didn't we lose an all pro Guard because Drew said it wasn't about the money when he turned down 19 mil for 20? And we lost the bid on the Guard who went to Tampa.
So hey Drew, get your 100 million dollar arse up and play. Sorry but I don't think any player is worth 100 mil, name ONE QB who has won the SB after they broke the 100 million dollar bank.

Carl Nicks reported he didn't even get an offer or the Saints FO work with him in the offseason for a contract until that morning of free agency. By that time, it was a clear message to him, so he went with the higher paying contract from TB. Followed up with a solid season and MRSA. Now he's out of the league.

We didn't lose on the bid, we went with the cheaper option from a guard with a strong run blocking record. Running behind him, Baltimore averaged 4.76ypc. Running behind Nicks, we averaged 4.45. Still good for 9th best in the league, but it wasn't like it was some vast "downgrade". We saved money:
Carl Nicks: 5yr/47.5mil
Ben Grubbs: 5yr/36.0mil

But yes, no QB that is 100mil has won, blah blah blah. Since 2009:

2009: New Orleans Saints (Elite QB getting paid 10mil/yr)
2010: Green Bay Packers (Elite QB getting paid 6.5mil/yr)
2011: New York Giants (Above average QB getting paid 16.25mil/yr) - the opponent? NE Patriots (Elite QB getting paid 18.0mil/yr)
2012: Baltimore Ravens (Above average QB getting paid 6.76mil - final year of his rookie contract)
2013: Seattle Seahawks (rookie contract)

yeah, so what you're saying is should have kicked Brees to the curb, built a defense and just rode the defense.

Not blame the highest paid interior line in the league that ranks dead last in pass protection.

Yup. He's an arse alright

Yep. The Oline is a big problem. The pressures are certainly leading to the interceptions.

Brees would be doing much better if he could get comfortable in the pocket and settle down and make the passes. However, his arm is starting to weaken just a little and we need to start punding the rock more, which is even more reason to overhaul the OL in the offseason.

His arm strength is just fine, he's "weakening", but it isn't like he can't throw it past 10 yards. He just needs protection. When we were giving him time vs. GB, he hit players in stride for 40 yards through the air.

I never said that his arm was gone just that it was weakening but hell he what 35 now? The OL has been his biggest problem.

Not 20 mil a yr, so thanks for backing me up. And read what I wrote, I didn't say he was an arse, I said he needs to get off his arse because his greed and BSing everyone saying its not about the money when it clearly was is the reason we are in the hell we are in right now.
Ppl in LA act like we owe Drew the friggan world, last I checked teams weren't beating his door down when he left SD, we took a chance on him when ppl doubted he could play and it worked out for both parties, while he made 60 mil in the process.

1. How does he need to get off his arse?

2. What does him leaving San Diego have to do with anything?

Salary cap must have been the same all those years.

Blame the Saints front office for not extending him in 2010. Drew took a lot of risk there. Nicks wanted to be the highest paid guard

Nm, not worth it . You clearly have no idea what you're talking about

Yeah, and when we took the chance, signed him to a 6yr/60million dollar contract. Then his play outplayed his contract and not one peep of you guys said "he should get paid more than 10mil/yr". Now the question comes, did he once ever complain during those 6 years that he will hold out? Nope. He knew we took a gamble with him and he knew what he had done/accomplished, but he sat and waited while he was putting up better numbers in that span than most QBs and on equal footing with the league's best.

So yes, his 20mil is fine. Guess what too, his 20mil/yr in 2014 is ~15% of the total cap (133mil).

In 2011, Eli's 16.5mil was 13.75% of the total cap (123mil)

So really, going based off %, his cap hit means shite. He's getting off his arse a lot, wanna know why we know?

Because he's getting hit a lot by defensive lineman that are dominating our overpaid 16mil interior line.

It isn't about the money, because if it was his open market value would be even higher than what we paid him. If it was, he'd sit out and go to the highest bidder. What it is about is value and worth, and at the time a top 5 elite QB was getting paid >18mil/yr
