So tonight will test the idea that an earlier announcement would have been wiser

The decision to announce the no true bill at 8pm has been widely criticized, but I'm of the opinion that an earlier announcement would have been even worse. Last night was largely unavoidable, and an earlier announcement could have brought danger to many more people, including kids that weren't yet home.

Regardless, if tonight is as bad as last night, or even worse, I believe it should squash the criticism that I'm hearing and reading today.

I agree about earlier being worse. Later meant less people not involved being out on the streets at a bad time.

Tonight is the night for them to get things done. Forecast is for clear skies and 29 degrees tonight, then a 90% chance of a rain/snow mix on Wednesday.

Should have printed it in the newspaper as the official release and let it be released at 4am to each house.

I would have done it Sunday during the NFL games.

Is there anything left to burn and loot?

What happened last night was going to happen regardless of what time they announced it.

I don't see how tonight can be as bad as last night. There really isn't much left for them to destroy.

Maybe tonight will be a night of rebuilding.

Gotta love hearing CNN and the like blaming the late announcement for the riots.

"Everybody would've quietly protested at noon"

Does nobody accept the blame anymore?

It kind of seems that the "protesters" were baited into their reaction, and that it was all planned.

The Gov. called in the National Guard but didn't deploy them.

Police were nowhere to be seen around the shops.

We know cops love their toys but there were few if any militarized vehicles.

It's kind of like the people in charge knew exactly what would happen and they chose the best scenario for total chaos and looting.

What would it have hurt to announce it at 8? They probably would have all been sleeping.

they would have rioted even if he was indicted. Then rioted again if he was found guilty or innocent. The ones rioting and looting dont give 2 shits about mike brown or the verdict.

Some relished getting holler at cops anything they wanted, right in their face: frick the cops! on and on.

Some just wanted to fire that new used handgun they got last week.

Some just wanted a big ole bottle or two of the most expensive booze on the shelf.

Some got cold, needed a fire.

It's not like they got football or something to get excited about. Hell, it was just a big ole party. Will they party tonight? Only if they can find a party buddy.

Missouri public schools have school today (unless they were cancelled because of last night).

They need to bring in water cannons when it's that cold out.
