That's a good +1 for the "not a Christmas movie" camp.

Imagine you met some heathen tomorrow, and this heathen asked you about what would be some good Chrismas movies to watch....

Who the frick would say "Die Hard"?

"Oh, hi there Godless person. You want to know what Christmas is all about? Just go watch 'Die Hard'."

Seriously, the "Die Hard is a Christmas movie" movement is nothing more than hipster propaganda trash.

Christmas movies don't have to explain to the viewer what Christmas is all about.

DH is easily a Christmas movie. Just not as "Christmas-y" much as some others. And just because it's mostly an action film doesn't mean that it can't also fall under other categories.

The whole point of the "Christmas party" is that is where Bruce plans to reconcile with his ex-wife

One of the major themes of Christmas movies is trying to bring together family for Christmas, honoring age-old traditions. How is McClain's journey to reconcile with his ex-wife not fulfilling that motif. The entire movie is about one man's quest to, despite overwhelming odds and a terrorist plot, reunite his family and save the woman he loves. It's a touching Christmas tale that makes you feel fortunate for all of the loved ones in your life for whom you do not have to scale a sky-scraper to be with at Christmas.

No shite. It's not even close. It isn't a Christmas movie.

Due to the action and body count, yes DH is pretty much disqualified from being a Christmas movie.

Nobody walked out of the theater in 1988 and said "wow, that was the best Christmas movie I have ever seen!", yet, boatloads of people discussed it being the best action movie ever.

Nobody was discussing a god damned thing pertaining to Christmas after watching it. They were saying shite like "damn that explosion was fricking awesome!", "it hurt me watching him pull out all of the glass embedded in his feet" or "ewww that jap got it bad when they splattered his brains all over that room".

Die Hard has a few things that many Christmas movies have, and about 9868976897685 things that NO other Christmas movies have, and this disqualifies it from being a Christmas movie.
