1. Christmas Music in Soundtrack?
- Yes, as well as a reoccurring theme in the score.
2. Christmas parties?
- Yes
3. Christmas/Festive wear?
- Yes
Hell, he even tapes his M9 to his back with festive packing tape.
It's most definitely a Christmas movie.

There really are several Christmas motifs hidden throughout the movie...
John comes and steals their cookies "aka guns and radio" like a thief in the night. He shimmies through ducts and chimneys "aka elevator shaft".
He needs guidance to get through the night with his reindeer "aka Carl"
He punishes the naughty and gives gifts to the good kids "aka money bag"
Etc Etc
There was an intentional illusion to Santa with John.

Wouldn't John's reindeer be Sgt. Al Powell? Carl was Hans Gruber's henchman.

Are Dutch and Planes Trains and Automobiles considered to be thanksgiving movies?

Christmas is not a major theme of the film; it is simply a motif. Christmas could be replaced by other holidays or events, and the central idea of the film would stay the same.
Everything you just said applies to It's a Wonderful Life.
But since Ted Turner decided in 1985 to show it on his network every Christmas...people began to think of it like Miracle on 34th Street (ergo, a Christmas movie)
My big pet peeve: Listen up everyone!!!!!
It has nothing to do with Christmas...the final scene ends on Christmas...that's all.
It has to do with a man's longing for exploration, longing, adventure - big dreams dashed...reality, and finding out you don't need to travel the world to experience it all.
It's a great guy movie...and men love it and women hate it...it's about hopes and dreams and fulfillment in life...
NOT CHRISTMAS!!!!

Agreed. Definitely not a Christmas movie. It's an action terrorism movie
These two aren't mutually exclusive.
I'd say if the Passion is an Easter movie, then Die Hard sure as shite is a Christmas movie.

Sgt. Al Powell is Carl Winslow from Family Matters.

So you went on a rant about It's a Wonderful Life and told a story we have all known for decades. Good job, Z. That still does not change the FACT that DH is NOT a Christmas movie.

WOW!!!!
You compared The passion as an Easter movie to DH as a Christmas movie...I will sit back and wait for you to understand your faulty logic.

What makes your typical holiday film so Christmas-y?
- A Christmas soundtrack and/or holiday decorations? Die Hard has those.
- The morals of Christmas (peace on earth and goodwill toward men)? Die Hard has those.
- The importance of family? Die Hard has it.
- A romance plot? Die Hard has it.
Die Hard is essentially an adult version of Home Alone. Most people consider Home Alone to be a Christmas movie. Just because Die Hard has blood, death and explosions doesn't make it any less of one.
RollTide wins the thread.
Thanks for your participation, kids.

People who think Die Hard is a Christmas movie are trashy.

If a movie's soundtrack contains "Christmas in Hollis" by RUN DMC, it is by default a Christmas movie.
Damn fricking straight.

Sure it is.
Did you just stumble upon the M/TV board after forgetting it was here? You're "what is/is not a Christmas movie" trip is weird.

No! I don't post as much as I simply read.

Same thing with It's A Wonderful Life.
