When the Obama administration last week began the process of preparing the media and the public about the president’s plan to unilaterally suspend deportation for millions of illegal immigrants, it did not go to a Latino outlet like Univision. It did not communicate to the liberal base via the Huffington Post or even old standbys like the New York Times and the Washington Post. The “exclusive” went to Fox News.

quote:

The reaction on Fox was what you would expect: pure outrage. Charles Krauthammer slammed the plan that day as an “impeachable offense,” and the following night he compared President Barack Obama to a Venezuelan “caudillo.” Bill O’Reilly accused Obama of wanting to “tear the country apart politically” and, the following night, of “subverting the Constitution and law.” Fox personalities quickly began musing about possible retaliatory measures like blocking all presidential nominees and defunding the entire Justice Department.

And now, we hear, the president plans to announce his decision Thursday, despite pleas even from Senate Democrats who would like him to wait until they can pass an omnibus spending bill and avert any shutdown threat. If he wanted to, of course, the president could minimize the risk of a disruption in government funding by simply waiting until the Dec. 11 deadline for the expiration of the latest spending bill. Obama is under pressure to make the move sooner from Hispanic lobbies and others who are angry with him for delaying until after the midterms. But it is very possible that the president has another motive as well: blowing up the GOP.

Politico

Bottom line: Republicans won't be able to come up with a cogent, unified immigration policy. They will not pass a bill. This will force GOP candidates to take a terrible position in the primary on immigration.

a.) anti-immigration reform: you can win primary but guaranteed to lose general*

b.) pro-immigration reform: you could possibly win general but there's no way you're winning the primary.

*NOTE: If current trends hold (according to a report I heard on XM radio POTUS channel last weekend), the GOP will have to win 65% of the white vote to win the presidency in 2016....which is not going to happen...especially after they make fools of themselves on immigration. The white vote was 59% for Romney and 55% for McCain.

I'm not crazy about EAs but republicans could pass a bill and come out on top....but they won't.

You mean like build a fence, secure the border, and stop paying out billions in welfare to these illegals for their votes -- like the vast majority of Americans want???

a.) you'll have a hard time getting a majority of republicans to agree with that.

b.) how do these illegals vote again?

c.) are you aware that deportations are at an all-time high under the Obama administration?

Saying "let's secure the border" sounds good but it doesn't solve much of anything.

According to who, Obama? Compromise means both sides willing to give and get. When was the last time Obama did that on such a big issue like immigration.

What's funny to me is Obama wants to tackle and make decisions on social subjects that affect small percentages of people but he doesn't know how to handle the big ticket items that affect us all.

Frankly, I'd settle for a POTUS who'd just do his job as described, rather than one who's obsessively preoccupied with being a childish troll.

Of course, I realize that this is what passes for leadership among your ilk, so no surprise you'd celebrate such behavior.

Yep...looks like he may have.

The immigration reform thing could be a win for whichever party does it in reasonable way. Unfortunately BHO wants to give this group of people amnesty AND benefits. We can't afford both.

Saul Alinsky teaches that the best way to smash traditional America is to find wedge issues, divide and conquer.

That's what Obama's doing. As a subversive, he's very subtle and sometimes effective.

He's perfect for the Left, because, at heart, Leftists are subversive malcontents who want to see "straight society" burn.

Go follow around a Mary Landrieu bus on voting day.

From the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy that is the L.A. Times......

The only reason deportations are "up" (completely misleading) is because Obama has basically hung a "Welcome" sign up at the border and it's these people who are being "deported".

I refuse to applaud politics as usual.

Good lord man. Simply wanting to secure the border to shut down illegal crossings isn't anti-immigration

It does beg the question: how much rent does Obama charge Fox News?

Are you aware that the definition of deportations has been reinvented under this admin (who'd a thunk it huh?)? Turning back illegals at the border was never considered a deportation until these kids running this admin decided to amend the definition.

False on amnesty. That's the right's spin (it's even in FNC website). But amnesty is full citizenship. Obama is only delaying deportation and allowing work permits until a law gets passed.

And all of this would be a non- issue if Congress would do their job and pass an immigration reform bill.

Dysfunction begets more dysfunction.

That won't stop them.

It doesn't even work in areas that have them already.

Yeah, his plan is to just let the GOP make fools of themselves again. It happens everytime they are under pressure. Good strategy really.

You are correct. The only way to slow/stop the flow of illegals is to make penalties harsh for people/companies that hire illegals...and enforce those laws. You also would need to exclude illegals from the welfare state. Unfortunately both parties would have issues with this so we will only see an increase in the number of illegals coming to the U.S.

Illegal immigration will only stop when wages and benefits in the U.S. are similar to those countries that people are coming from. If you have not developed skills that illegals have then you will only see a decrease in your standard of living.

Wouldn't it be great if we had leaders that wanted the best for Americans and not just to beat the other party?
