unfortunate incident, but based on what is in the story, this sounds perfectly justified to me...

At 12 years old we all knew if you pointed a weapon (real or fake), or reached for a weapon, after being told to put your hands in the air, well you would be shot by said police officer.

At 12 years old I no longer played with fake guns but if I had, I dam sure wouldn't have reached for it if an officer told me to put my hands up.

Sounds like the cop was kinda dumb then..

Cops simply aren't smart enough to handle anything. If you can't handle a situation with a 12 year old kid, you are too stupid to do anything.

So many 12 year old murder cases. Here are a couple.

quote:

A 12-year-old Washington Boy Scout shot and killed his teen sister with his father's handgun before he turned the weapon on himself,
12 yr old kills sister then self

quote:

Her little brother pleaded for his life, "I'm scared. I'm too young to die", before his sister stabbed him in the chest, and her boyfriend cut his throat.

When children murder, it's shocking. Even more shocking and unimaginable is when children murder their own parents.
12 year old murders parents and 8 yr old brother

cops are just idiots...if you have to shoot and kill a 12 year old kid because he pulls out a toy gun, you have no business having a real gun...

I never cease to be amazed at the stupidity of the public (this thread for example) who can't see what idiots cops have become....

Right, because the cop knew it was a toy gun

It wasn't a Super Soaker, it was a toy gun with the telling orange safety marker removed. It obviously resembled a real gun to the cop.

Fail.

Why in the frick does a 12 year old pull out a got dam gun on a cop....PERIOD? Cops are supposed to assume it's fake, first? I guess not.

Parents need to raise their kids to know better than that. We're talking TWELVE YEARS OLD here, not 4.

So much fail here.

"12 year old kid". Do you know what the kid looked like ? I've seen some 12 yr olds and they could pass for 15-16. Teenagers are every bit as dangerous as adults.

"Toy gun", so is this

Hard to distinguish from a distance. You can't wait for the round to hit you to decide if it's a real weapon or not.

Circumstances/distance/lighting etc, etc, etc... W/O details you have no idea what the officer saw or reacted to. You do know that the kid had what appeared to be a real weapon and didn't follow commands.

Standard Operating Procedure:

Shoot first.

Make up a story that justifies the shooting.

This is an example of a someone too afraid to think clearly...both the child and the cops.

And what's worse, the guy that called 911 said the kid probably had a toy gun but he wasn't sure.

None, but I know enough cops to know that lying is something they do regularly and well.

My experience has taught me to automatically disbelieve any story a cop tells.

Sounds like he had intended for the gun to look real, to me.

If the intent is to use a toy gun, go get a water gun or some other gun that is orange, green, or some other color than black.

Well, police departments are one of the few places of employment that disqualify applicants for being TOO smart.
