I don't know shite about cars, seems like it would be worth the price though assuming it runs with no issues.
Backstory, family friend had it for a while, belonged to one of their family members who had passed away at a young age. Didn't want to get rid of it, finally did and the guy they kinda trusted to take it on is now ebaying it. 5400 doesn't seem like much for a pretty little car along with that story behind it

Really depends on condition, if it's all original and numbers matching, no rust, etc. Could probably talk him off that price a little - that isn't a very desirable Camaro, but I think now that people who would have had that car in high school are nearing retirement age or to the point they have disposable cash, it could appreciate a bit in coming years. Wonder what production numbers are on 2nd gen Z/28's?

Politely ask about rust in the floor boards, remember.. this a deceased loved ones car, people get really sensitive about that stuff..
So test drive it and see how the fuel pump and carb holds up, they'll probably need to get switched out anyway.. but I need to see more pics..
Also, look up the numbers for block online and see if they match what is stamped on the block, politely of course
but first, if you are serious, don't waste their time, get up there and offer them cash also..

Well its worth what you pay for it, I wouldnt buy it, nothing depreciates faster than quasi desirable muscle cars--stay away
plus its a 78 which means it has all this emissions crap on it,

It's got potential value. All original, unrestored '78 Z/28's are going for $10,000+
Depending on the shape it's actually in and if it's all original, he could probably flip it or break even at the worse.

Are you sure it's a 78 Z28? It has an 80-81 hood scoop, front fender vents, grill, front grill emblem, front spoiler. I would check the VIN # to verify what it is. It may just be a Camaro with a 4 speed. Who knows but it makes a huge difference in value.

Good catch. I'm not too well versed in Camaros...but using Google, you are 100% correct. Looks like an 1980-81 model, not 1978.

Dunno what I dunno, so thanks for pointing that out. Think I'm gonna let this one pass with all the considerations mentioned here along with the logistics of going back to missouri to get it.
I am in a huge military town though, doubt I'd ever have trouble making money off it

It looks to be in pretty good shape but I would go a little older. 1971 camaro is much better looking.
If your going with late 70's, get a trans am

Honestly you should probably just stop right here. Older cars, and knowing nothing about them is a recipe for disaster, and tons of spent money.

That thing is rough as a cob.
Non-factory decals, buggered up hole in the roof.
Cheap, but not cheap enough.
Pass.

an original '78 Z28 with 42,000 original miles on it would certainly be worth the price being asked...trouble is, without really looking at things, you can't tell whether all is original and the mileage is correct or not...
I would say that if you want to tinker, that may be something to buy. However, you say that you know noting about cars. Old cars like this generally are not very dependable and as a result should generally be owned by someone who likes to tinker with cars and can do a lot of work themselves...
