Maybe they can put some electronic signs that tell you a story or jokes when driving. If they are suspenseful then you would be too excited to sleep.

One more thought. Have the police patrol actually patrol. Is easy to figure out where they are when they're parked in the crossover all of the time. Nobel idea I know.

I heard somewhere that they are trying to figure out how to do a tension barrier similar to what's on the median of I-12

This is just a thought, but couldn't that have the potential to create larger accidents. The same person is going to wreck and instead of going overboard they are going to bounce back into traffic and hit more cars. The potential for larger accidents would seem higher to me.

Regular patrolling would actually do more harm than good... if you have any experience on the bridge you would know why.

Drive it twice a day for lots of years. Been way way worse since Katrina.

Patrols seem to slow traffic down to a single speed. Most of the problem is the difference in speeds that people use in the bridge. Slowing traffic to one speed is the theory behind the fog convoys which although aggravating is effective.

Traffic cameras that are easily relocated?

Maybe not traditional, but you can get your day in "court" by coming in and arguing at the other end?

I put my CC on 70. I am passing someone, I am in the left lane. Some idiot comes up behind me at 75. I get over to the right to let him pass. About that time we start getting close to a crossover so idiot passing me slows down to 60-65 staying on side of me, jamming me behind another slower car in the right lane and then now 3 more cars are passing me. About 10 minutes later I come up behind the first idiot who is now going 60 because they are talking on their phone or texting. I pass them and we repeat the same thing sequence all the way across the damn bridge.

This all truth!!!

I've never ever been pulled over with the cruise set at 70-71mph. I do this about 90% of my trips across... Managing the crossover freakouts is an art.

I have been driving that bridge all my life and have never had a problem, people just need to learn how to drive.

I know assholes who consistently get up to 80 or 85 between crossovers, and then rapidly decelerate to 65 at each crossover. It's fricking moronic...

At the end of the trip, you've saved what? About two or three minutes? (maybe!) but you're motion sick and are a nervous wreck from calculating the ever changing odds of getting busted or killed.

Driving 65 for 24 miles only takes a little over 22 minutes. (I know the speed limit is reduced at the end of both spans. Maybe it takes 23 or 24 minutes to cross at the posted speed limit...) The whole causeway commute would be much safer if everyone drove the speed limit and wasn't trying to fulfill their inner-NASCAR fantasies by driving up the arse of the car in front of them. Even if, God forbid, that vehicle is in the left lane.

Not all my life, but I agree with the last line. Also Semi,Buses,Box Trucks, vehicle with a trailer need to be regulated to the right lane. Finally ban any vehicle with mississippi plates.

This.

RaIse them (with a non-competed, sole source contract, SOP for the Causeway) as high as you want, it won't make people into better drivers.

They have the design to raise the railing. Only problem is the cost at $50-60 M. If they raise the tolls people will go nuts so there is not good way to fund it now.

If "the people" don't want the toll raised, but are actually concerned about safety, the answer is lowering the speed limit to 45 or 50. I bet it won't take long for the regular commuters to find an extra dollar or two to save 6 or 8 minutes daily.
