North Face entry level offerings are complete crap. Marmot is 100x better.

I've got one made by Columbia that's the best I've ever owned.

Keeps you 100% dry.In the summer it's like wearing a greenhouse though.

I keep my northface rain jacket in my backpack at all times. The caribbean is worse than south la about pop up rainstorms. It works pretty well and I would recommend it.

I have a Marmot minimalist. It's great rain protection. It is not warm however so if you are looking for something that will also provide warmth, that is not it.

This. You won't get wet from the rain, you will get soaked from the sweat

I love mine though

Never have to buy a rain jacket again (or a shell, or ski jacket, etc.).

I use Frogg Toggs. It is a full suit with pants. Light and easy to pack. Can get swampy if it is really humid outside, but they work great. $80 roughly for the full suit.

This one ain't bad:
$30 at Costco

I have 4 of these

I had the Marmot Precip for about 5 years and it's almost the exact same jacket, but $70 cheaper.

If you want the best rain jacket that you can get, buy something made of Gore-Tex. If you want a great rain jacket for cheap, get the one from Costco.
