Seasonality of Buying and Selling a House

What are the best times of the year to buy a house and to sell a house?
We are thinking about moving into another house next year. It would just be another house in the same city, basically an upgrade since we are still in kind of a starter home.
If it would be possible to buy during the months of the year that favor buyers and then sell a few months later during a season that favors sellers, then that would be ideal.
Any ideas?

Traditionally, holiday season and the first of the year are the worst times to sell and end of school year/summer is the best time to sell. But if you have your house priced competitively, staged well and it's in good shape, especially a starter home, you can sell them almost any time. First time buyers or buyers with no kids aren't constrained to school schedules, etc.
We sold our starter home in January for list price- and we sold it by owner, too.

To sell, I would think late summer because families want to be moved before school starts

Well it depends on the type of property
Eta: big houses with kids involved.... sumber will always be king. Normal 3 bed 2 bath... all year long
